2nd Posting of 3/2/09, Fantasy Band # 3

Drummer. An essential part of any band, any genre. Jazz, Country, Folk whatever type music, it is essential. Some may have it under the heading of "percussionist" and that's fine, it is the backbone, the driving force of the music. In fact we believe a "true" drummer is not just someone who bangs on skins to create a sound. A true drummer is a Percussionist in the very sense of the word. There's the beat that sets the tempo but there is also the vast array of sounds that support, enhance and give the music it's soul. We believe that successful music is that in which the listener is whisked away on a journey, given a vision for which the lyrics provide a narrative. That is why it is with great admiration, love and respect that we have chosen for the Lamocu Fantasy Band...Neil Peart of Rush.

Roger Taylor of Queen was close and so was Carl Palmer, but it is Neil who we want playing for us in our Rock and Roll Heaven. Some of you may have thought Led Zeppelin's John Bonham was a lock---oooh, good choice. Others of you knowing my personal allegiance to the Who may have thought Keith Moon was a "slam dunk"---and we could live with that choice too. But it is Neil who has won us over after so many years and still reigns supreme.

Let us hear from you. Remember there is no wrong answer, we just ask that you justify your selection, tell us why you're so passionate about your Fantasy Drummer. For your review, here is the Lamocu Productions Fantasy Band as of now:

Bassist- Joe Bouchard of Blue Oyster Cult

Keyboardist- Keith Emerson of Emerson, Lake & Palmer

Drummer - Neil Peart of Rush

Thanks for reading along and stay tuned.

Ahhh drummers. People who like hitting things with sticks!! You've gotta love them. I knew it would be Neil Peart.
However I want to throw some old school names out there that some people may or may not know about.
Buddy Rich(unbelievable and Johnny Carson's favorite drummer), Steve Gadd, Billy Cobham(Check out the band and album Spectrum!!).
Now for rock drummers let's make sure to give credit to Mitch MitchellRIP)-with Hendrix and Ginger Baker(Cream). These guys in my opinion were really jazz drummers playing in a rock band.
I also liked the guy from another Canadian band- Triumph. And my drummer really likes Steve Smith who played for Journey and now plays for a bunch of fusion artists.
My choice would be Neil Peart- but a good freind of mine says Carl Palmer- who actually taught Neil to play- sometimes the student becomes the teacher!!

I agree Neil is a very good choice. But pound for pound I believe that Roger Taylor of Queen has him beat is every bit as good as Neil but only about half his size. And I too would like to add some names that might be over looked and need to be mentioned. Michael Shrieve from Santana (just think 16 yrs old and playing with Carlos and at Woodstock), Frank Beard-ZZ Top (the one without a beard), Gil Moore- Triumph beats those skins and sings, Nick Mason- Pink Floyd if you can't tell who my favorite band is by now this is it also go back and listen to Dark side of the Moon and you will have to agree he needs to be on the list, Charlie Watts- The Stones the man is still playing at his age which is what 66 or 67 something like that Amazing, and Rick Allen from Def Leppard the man loses an arm and re-teaches himself to play using his feet come on that is just to cool. So after going though my list I have to say my pick is still Roger Taylor the man can "pound" them skins as good as Bonham in Black Dog, has as much pure talent as Neil and Carl, and can still sing nearly as good as Freddy and after all that is still only like what 110lbs soaking wet? As for me he has to be number one.
