Movin' On

Today is a great day in Michigan. You've read me ramble about the grayness of winter, well this week we have been "blessed" with snow---every day! So I remind myself of this wonderful development as I slip and slide to appointments lately. Yeah, driving is hazardous, but it's pretty out :)

Still feeling the after effects of last Saturday's show. DVD's should be ready sometime today. In a future posting (because I can't find the paper work right now) I will be sharing the list of comics who made the night so special for us here at Lamocu and for the Pinckney HS Football program. I suppose if I was really dedicated I could go through this mess right now but we had to do taxes this week and "piles" have been shifted from one location to another and...you know how it is. Suffice to say the list of comics will be worth it. One big thing for us after Saturday was that we got mentioned TWICE on LinkedIn about the show. Well, not us specifically, but the show, which is WAY cool. LinkedIn is strictly professional social networking, serious stuff and we thank those who took the time to write about the show. This is not to take anything away from Facebook, Twitter or My Space which we love, it's just that LinkedIn is what it is and we appreciate the kudos.

Our next Performance @ The Well will be March 20th and will feature Guy Robertson emceeing a pretty extensive Open Mic night, by that I mean it will probably go longer than the usual 30-45 minutes of the show. We have one band playing that night, Billy Paul's Mr. Hyde, and they will be rockin' after we have seen all the aspiring talent take the stage with Guy. We're going to be on a youth movement that night, pushing the hammer down on getting new talent to the stage. And I guess new talent does not have to be young. Actually we're finding more and more "mature" musicians who still haven't let the dream go---good for them and the stage is for them as well.

The coupon that Buffalo Wild Wings used to give out with every paid admission has been replaced with a dinner out coupon. What that is is a deal where people can go to BW's before the show, make it a full night out, and proceeds from the dinner hour will go to our featured charity.
BW's already does something similar for groups on special evenings thru the week, this is something they have altered just for us and our program. So kudos and many thanks from all of us here at Lamocu to our friends at Buffalo Wild Wings!

Tiger Woods was back in the news recently, does anyone care? Personally I feel all confessions and apologies pale next to Letterman's. Gosh, even President Clinton's was better than Tiger's. And that's not saying much since Clinton's was pretty lame :)

Had a great meeting with Julie Smith (great last name huh) of LACASA earlier in the week and we might be doing a show for them in either April or May. We've been approached by 3 other organizations too but I feel they probably should go unmentioned until negotiations are finalized.

Well got to go for now, more to come soon. Remember to root for our hockey teams as they go for the Gold, keep your stick on the ice and stay tuned.

The Aftermath

Last Saturday night proved to be a success. Jordan Jones was outstanding as our MC, he made the evening. We did have seven outstanding up and coming young comics but it is an art to MC an event correctly. You have to entertain while at the same keeping the flow of the show running. Jordan Jones, a quality stand up in his own right and a pro in working a show!

Many thanks Jordan from Lamocu Productions and the Pinckney HS Football program.
Until next time...stay tuned!

Performance @ The Well 2/20/10

Tomorrow night The Performance @ The Well will feature our night "standups", performing to raise money for the Pinckney HS Football program. We have a great lineup of standups looking to make their mark. We are very pleased to have veteran Jordan Jones emceeing the evening for us and almost all of our performers are regulars on the Detroit area circuit. So there shouldn't be any stage fright. :)

Next month on March 20th, we will be going back to our music format with Guy Robertson emceeing and running the Open Mic at the first part of the show. Have to run now, got new gift certificates from Buffalo Wild Wings to pick up for tomorrow.

Remember, doors open at 7 and show begins promptly at 8. See you there and stay tuned.

Comedy Expansion

Today we expanded our Meet Up capabilities when we formed A Comedy Production! It was long overdue with all the attention we have been paying to "just" the music industry :) You can check it out at http://www.meetup.com/AComedyProduction/?success=settings

The timing seemed right with our show coming up on the 20th at The Well. We are very excited about this development and look forward to expanding it to the fullest. Once again advance tickets are available through Event Brite and doors will open promptly at 7pm on the 20th.

Meeting with Doug of Buffalo Wild Wings this afternoon, he has more fund raising options, can't wait to see what he has to offer. At this time it only seems fair to acknowledge our sponsors who making all this possible. We are indebted and grateful to The Well, Buffalo Wild Wings and Signs By Tomorrow for believing in what we're doing and giving us the chance to make it a reality. Aside from God, our families and clients...you guys are the 3 most important people in our lives here at Lamocu :) Well gotta go, keep your stick on the ice and stay tuned.

Great News in Sports!

Looking at the title, most probably think this posting will be about the Super Bowl. You're probably sitting there thinking "how can he predict was hasn't been done?" or is this posting about the party tomorrow---neither. But it has been a great last couple of days in sports.

For one thing, our voices have been heard and the Spartan logo is NOT changing!
Always loved the slick, clean design and why were we changing it anyways? But nowadays with the internet, Facebook and Twitter, our voices were heard and the powers that be have re-thought their idea. Even if it wasn't a bad idea (which it was) isn't there more important things to be dealing with?
Then the next great event in the last few days happened today. Dick Lebeau, former cornerback of the Detroit Lions made the Hall of Fame. I know, I know, everyone is out there groaning "the Lions?" and I hear ya. But the Lions of the sixties and seventies weren't terrible, they were just stuck in the same division as the Packers and Vikings. Back before there was a "wild card" team the playoffs consisted of only division winners. The Lions played "second fiddle" many a year in their own division, never made the playoffs and no one ever knew they existed.

For years Dick was considered the second best cornerback in the league behind Herb Adderly---a Packer! Now with Dick making it, the stars from those teams have received their just due. Joe Schmidt, one of the greatest linebackers to never win a championship, was no brainer decades ago. In the last few years Lem Barney and Charlie Sanders have found their place in Canton and now this year Dick will join them.
I can't see anyone else from those great teams making it, but having four from that era says something, something very special. Too often I feel people "just" look at the numbers a player puts up. If they have great stats the next question is how many championships did they have? And you have to look at the era, the timing of their career. As stated before, the playoffs had not expanded to even ONE wild card team for most of these Lions' careers. But, it should be noted that the first year the NFL did add a wild card team, the Lions were there...losing to the powerful Dallas Cowboys 5-0! Yeah, FIVE, the awesome Cowboys did not score a touchdown against a defense that featured Barney and Lebeau.
One final note about looking past stats...growing up in the Detroit area I loved Al Kaline. Many people who knew baseball would talk how great he was, others would bring up his lack of championships. But again, as with the NFL, the playoff system had not expanded yet. In fact it was 1969 when each league devised an East and West division, to allow two teams play for the pennant. Up through 1968 there was only one winner in each league. It didn't matter if you were a half game out of first place or 20 games out of first, there was one winner and 10-11 losers. Yes there were some great pennant races in the 60's featuring the White Sox, Indians, Twins, Tigers and Red Sox---all ending up second fiddle to the Yankees usually. And all of those teams featured stars you may never know... if you just go by the stats.
Now I must leave and begin preparations for the big game tomorrow. For now enjoy the weekend, enjoy the game and definitely enjoy The Who! Take care and stay tuned.

It's February!

Being February I guess you could say it's the half way point of winter here in Michigan. Though I guess the only reason you would be sitting around "thinking" that is because it's so darn cold your first thought was "how much longer will this last?" So let's settle on it being half way...whatever the groundhog saw or didn't see really doesn't matter.

The show for the Hope for Autism Foundation went well. We're looking at this being a great springboard for 2010. Our February 20th show will be a night of comedy raising funds for the Pinckney High School Football program.

Taking care of dad has occupied much of my time recently (if you follow my Facebook page you know that) so I am really thankful for the "pros" here at Lamocu and The Guild of Insightful Sounds that have been picking up the slack and seeing things through. I love you guys!

Our featured performer on the 20th will be the group twentysomething.funnysomethin with special MC, the talented Jordan Jones. Jordan has appeared at our Open Mic's in the past and we're very excited to have him with us again. There is more to MCing than people think, it's an art and much the way Guy Robertson knows how to deal with musicians, Jordan knows comedians. And, to be fair, Jordan is pretty good headliner himself. So don't miss this one.

More later, so stay tuned!
