Music Open Mic Night 9/12/09

A wonderful night of music is planned again. This time believe it or not, we have found "another" Alan Smith! It's karma, fait...whatever you want to call it but it IS. Alan has been running musical events in Milford years and makes the rounds to Open Mic's in the area, we even know several of the same people. Please come experience Alan's music and enjoy all the features our facility has to offer.
Also with your paid admission you will receive a $5 food coupon from our newest sponsor, Buffalo Wild Wings---so a great enterainment value just got better! You get $5 back on your $10 admission and couples get in for two for one! Let's party!
Here is the bio Alan sent me to share: ******************************************************************************** Alan started writing songs about 25 years ago to fulfill a college course requirement for “Literature and the Arts.” It’s a very long song filled with the philosophy of Henry David Thoreau and not exactly a good performance piece. However, once he discovered his love of song writing, Alan continued to write about family, feelings, current events, and the miracles that occur in everyday life. He says, “Music has a way of bypassing our defenses. My favorite art form is taking a single idea or thought and expressing it in a three minute song that can be heard in the heart, not just in the mind.”
His songs have a way of surprising the listener, often finding something they already knew but have forgotten. They can make you laugh at the humor in the human condition or cry for the same reason. His subject matter and lyrics are often intense, sometimes dark and brooding, and nothing is out of bounds except commonly accepted good taste (and sometimes he crosses that boundary).
As a back porch philosopher, Alan says, “Philosophy is a bunch of interesting questions, but there is only one that really matters: How shall I live my life?” He lives this philosophy in performing his songs that both entertain and illuminate.
Alan is a retired automotive engineer living in Milford, Michigan, with his bride, Bridget, and their dog, Pierre.

Open Mic this Saturday.

The Guild of InSightful Sounds will be holding their second official Meet Up this Saturday at Open Mic Night and very excited to announce the debut of "Story of Autumn". SOA is a guitar duo made up by Joshua Glenn and Rob Monahan from South Lyon. The boys are pumped for their debut and will need our enthusiastic response to feed off of. Come join what could very easily be a date in history we'll all look back on and say "we were there". Other performers have not yet been confirmed, as they are new postings will go out.

Admission as always is $10 for adults and $5 for children or students with ID. We are holding a two for one this weekend, bring a date/partner/friend and you both can get in for $10. Sometime tomorrow we will be getting confirmation on the possible sponsorship for the Open Mic that we have been looking for...when news comes in there will a new posting for that.

Also, Quartermania debuts this Friday at InSights and our own Lauren Alm will be performing at that. There is no charge for Quartermania but if you wish to participate in the auction you will have to purchase paddles at the door. That's all for now, remember we will be moving soon, as soon as the new blog is ready so we'll keep you posted on all that. Until later, stay tuned.
