January 15th, 2011 - The Hope For Autism Foundation

The Performances @ The Well series for 2011 kicks off on January 15, 2011 with a musical fundraiser for the Hope For Autism Foundation. The show will feature Lauren Alm from Howell and special guests. There will be certificates and coupon books to raffle and sell from our great sponsor Buffalo Wild Wings of Howell, a craft show in the afternoon leading up to the show and Tony's Hot Dogs will be handling concessions again for us. Show time is 8pm but there will be a charity craft show during the day in the Youth area up front.

This Saturday the Performance @ The Well series continues with a musical fundraiser for the American Red Cross. Open Mic will feature the very talented Kali Mills who will be on her way to American Idol auditions in Minnesota next week. Then we will be entertained by the very talented duo of John Bonham and Rick Thompson...or as their fans may know them...John & Rick...or...Rick & John.

Either way you look at it, or them, you will be treated to a great night of local entertainment while supporting organization we all need, our

American Red Cross!

That's it for now, until tomorrow, stay tuned.

Enough already!

Been away for awhile, family issues seem to mount during the holidays. We hope that everyone out there is dealing with things in an effective manner. We try but fall short many times, I guess that's why they call us "human".

With Christmas a little over a week away...is anyone other than me tired of Tiger Woods? I'm not here to defend the man but EVERY day the media jumps on "another development". What other development can there be? He screwed up (no pun intended) and is paying the price (again, no pun intended) so let it be---I really don't care! People may say "well it keeps people's minds off their problems"; yeah well, the Holiday Season used to do that! Let's concentrate on the positive in the world if we need to be distracted. Better yet let's concentrate on being good to each other, since this is the only time of the year we seem to do it anyways. That's it for me, off my soap box about the media and Tiger. I chose this picture of Tiger to remind everyone of the "real" victims of this mess are.

Things are moving along at a pretty good clip for our shows in 2010. January 23rd at The Well will feature Lauren Alm, possibly a couple other bands, our emcee will be the talented Guy Robertson. The charity we will be working for is the Hope Autism Foundation. To follow the great work that Marcy and Lisa are doing, check out their blog at www.Hopeforautismmi.wordpress.com/ and it will give you something to think about instead of Tiger. Final details on this event are still coming in, the Foundation may have a dinner to accompany the show, so stay tuned.

On February 20th at The Well we will have a night of comedy featuring Trevor Smith and most, if not all of his group, "twentysomething, funnysomething". The charity we will be working for on that night will be the Pinckney High School Football program.

On our March 20th show we will probably return to music, but the performers and charity have yet to be determined, so stay tuned for that info as well.

On a personal note, my thanks to all our followers who showed support after the "anonymous" comment the other day. It makes you think, the whole point of expressing your opinion is so that others know where you stand on an issue. So the anonymous part is kind of pointless. It reminds of a story in the book "Hammer Of The Gods" (a bio of Led Zeppelin) where the manager wanted the writer on tour to print "someone said Led Zep was bigger than the Beatles". The writer said (and I'm paraphrasing) "fine, who said it?" The manager said "nobody said it yet, but I want you to SAY that somebody said it!" Needless to say...it never got printed that anyone said that. Anonymous quotes are worthless.

The other point that came to mind is why you would read something you don't like? Mickey Spillane, author of the Mike Hammer novels used to tell this story...now if you haven't read any Mike Hammer, there full of booze, bleach blonde's, and gun play. I know that and I've only read a couple of them! Well on more than one occasion Mr. Spillane said he had been confronted by individuals who couldn't wait to give him their opinion of his work. They called him sexist in his treatment of women, didn't like his story line etc etc and had read everyone of his books and wished he would write something good for a change. In each case Mr. Spillane would look them in the eye, smile and say (paraphrasing again) "but you read everyone of my books" and walked away. Point, set, match---see ya!

That's it for today. Dad feels up to Christmas shopping! The guys in the editing booth are driving me crazy with their Page vs. Clapton debate again! More later, until then thanks for reading along and stay tuned.

Pirate Radio Rocks!

We hope everyone had a great holiday weekend...for a lot of us, there is MORE of us to love these days. Such is the fate of the holidays I guess. If they made low calorie stuffing and other goodies they probably would taste like crap and we wouldn't bother right? Exactly. Anyways, if you're in the mood to go to the movies, and you're not really into romantic vampires, Pirate Radio is a MUST! Very well done with an excellent cast this is a movie that all rock and rollers, all journalism majors and all lovers of music period should see. The group I saw it with crossed several generations of music lovers; several had lived through it, some had heard about it, some had just "read" about it--- but all of us loved it. As in any industry it is important to know the innovators, the pioneers, the people who gave of themselves and sacrificed for what they believed in. Sometimes in this crazy world we can lose perspective on what it is we do and why, with Pirate Radio our vision has been restored, revitalized and reborn.

Here at Lamocu Productions we are proud to be doing our part in keeping the dream alive... Long Live Rock! Go see Pirate Radio with someone you love. Until next time, stay tuned!

TGIF!

TGIF, can stand for a lot of things but the one it's most noted for is Thank God It's Friday. Now I can thank God for a lot of things but just because it's Friday is not one of them. Oh I still excite at Friday, but when you have shows on the weekend it's not like Friday is the end of the week and I can loaf and relax for the weekend. Anyways, I do have a lot to be thankful for and tomorrow's show IS one of them.

For one thing, tomorrow represents our first show at The Well! The performers for Rockin' 4 Gleaners and myself are very excited about this venue. Not only has this facility opened their arms to us, they have jumped on board to become a sponsor for our shows. That may not mean much to some, but to have people look at what you're doing and see "value" in it and put their name on it, like The Well and Buffalo Wild Wings have done, is priceless. I'm thankful to our two sponsors and know that with their credibility we're going to grow even more.

Also, The Well was there when we were in limbo, unsure of our next step. That's something to be thankful for! Being our first show there we're also thankful for all the friends who have said they will come and help out with various tasks throughout the evening. Knowing that you will never have a second chance to create a first impression, makes all of us at Lamocu "thankful" for our friends.

Then there are the performers for Rockin' 4 Gleaners, we're thankful we have met and established relationships with them. We're thankful for Gleaners, not so much for what they do for us, but what they do for our community! Being associated with Gleaners is an honor we do not take lightly. It is a privilege to be a small part of what they do. Thanks Michelle---you're the greatest!

Hopefully tomorrow we will get a promo photo of Mr. Hyde to show you (every attempt before has failed, lol) but we would be remiss if we didn't give thanks to them. Mr. Hyde is compromised of three individuals who refuse to let their dream die. They're not kids and have been told they are "...too old to rock and roll but too young to die..." but will not surrender to such thoughts! And thank God for that! They have been an inspiration for all of us here; in fact Bill Welsh, the founder of Flannel Nation records, is the lead singer of Mr. Hyde, so you know they are people dear to our heart. But until that promo picture comes through, we are destined to show you the other two performers we are thankful for and they are NOT too old to rock and roll. We're very thankful we have met...

A HERO FALLS (L) and
CITY LIMIT (R)

With all that said, we need to conclude with a very special thank you to God for letting us do what we do for a living! Rockin' 4 Gleaners is tomorrow at The Well, tickets are $10 and include a $5 food coupon to Buffalo Wild Wings in Howell. 3 bands, food coupons and the satisfaction you're helping your community---there's no better entertainment value around! Well lots to do for tomorrow so we'll sign off for now. Be thankful no matter what day it is and hope to see you all there at the show. Until next time keep your stick on the ice and stay tuned.

Music Open Mic Night 9/12/09

A wonderful night of music is planned again. This time believe it or not, we have found "another" Alan Smith! It's karma, fait...whatever you want to call it but it IS. Alan has been running musical events in Milford years and makes the rounds to Open Mic's in the area, we even know several of the same people. Please come experience Alan's music and enjoy all the features our facility has to offer.
Also with your paid admission you will receive a $5 food coupon from our newest sponsor, Buffalo Wild Wings---so a great enterainment value just got better! You get $5 back on your $10 admission and couples get in for two for one! Let's party!
Here is the bio Alan sent me to share: ******************************************************************************** Alan started writing songs about 25 years ago to fulfill a college course requirement for “Literature and the Arts.” It’s a very long song filled with the philosophy of Henry David Thoreau and not exactly a good performance piece. However, once he discovered his love of song writing, Alan continued to write about family, feelings, current events, and the miracles that occur in everyday life. He says, “Music has a way of bypassing our defenses. My favorite art form is taking a single idea or thought and expressing it in a three minute song that can be heard in the heart, not just in the mind.”
His songs have a way of surprising the listener, often finding something they already knew but have forgotten. They can make you laugh at the humor in the human condition or cry for the same reason. His subject matter and lyrics are often intense, sometimes dark and brooding, and nothing is out of bounds except commonly accepted good taste (and sometimes he crosses that boundary).
As a back porch philosopher, Alan says, “Philosophy is a bunch of interesting questions, but there is only one that really matters: How shall I live my life?” He lives this philosophy in performing his songs that both entertain and illuminate.
Alan is a retired automotive engineer living in Milford, Michigan, with his bride, Bridget, and their dog, Pierre.

T-shirts & Open Mic

A Hero Falls is asking input from their fans on their tee shirt styles. Several advanced orders were placed last Saturday when the band was here at InSights, but that is just the tip of the iceberg as they say. Five Star Screenprinting is offering some fantastic packages that ALL performers should be looking at, check them out on Facebook for more information.

Last week Lamocu connected with Tarzan Marketing on items for performers to sell, everything from bumper stickers to guitar picks and we're scheduled to meet with them next Tuesday here at InSights.

Finally, Lauren Alm is this week's featured artist at our Open Mic night. Doors open at 7, show begins at 8. Tickets as always are $10 for adults, $5 for children. More later, stay tuned.

This Just In!

This is a special day for us here at Lamocu Productions! Not only have we been blessed with partnering with some wonderful talent in that last few months such as Lauren Alm, Will Springsteen, Mr. Hyde & Uptown Sound (who have allowed US the privilage to represent them). Today we became the management for the Partly Brothers! For experienced professionals such as Luti and Brian to see value in our work is a great compliment. To experience more of the Partly Brothers please go to their MySpace site, www.myspace.com/partlybrothers and check out their cd "From The Start" from James Music.

"From The Start" cd's, autographed posters of Luti and Brian and merchandise from all the acts we represent will be available at concession stands at our events. Stay tuned for developments as they occur and thanks for following along.

Weekend Recap!

Well Will Springsteen was excellent, as expected. For those of you who missed Will, he will be performing this Saturday at the Variety Show at InSights. Doors open at 7, show will begin promptly at 8pm.

Will performed a number of originals as well as cover tunes ranging from Gordon Lightfoot to Bob Dylan. And Emily Springsteen...what a find she was. Overall the best entertainment value for all of mid-Michigan was here at InSights this past Saturday night. People may have spent more, but they got a LOT less.

Now let's move on to our Fantasy Band. We're heading into the home stretch so lets not waste anymore time here. For our "extra" musician, we thought we would get some horn sections mentioned, you know, Tower of Power, Muscle Shoals something like that. Or maybe Jean Luc Ponty on electric violin or Magic Dick on harmonica, but the interest wasn't there, EVEN by the people who suggested the category! Got to be honest, the feedback on this category was the lowest of any band member, so let's move on.

Lamocu's extra musician has been no brainer all along...we played the sax and we love the sax. Long before I knew of Clarence in the E Street Band I had discovered Tom Scott doing solo on Carole King's "Jazzman" and that really caught my eye/ear on what a horn could do for rock and roll. Also, I'll be honest, I was a late bloomer with Chicago---love them, just wasn't there in the beginning with them. Then there's the mention of sax in Steely Dan's haunting "Deacon Blues". All of this comes to a climax with a local connection for us...Bob Seger. Yes our local hero (along with Ted and Alice) so that brings us to our choice for extra musician, it can be no other than Alto Reed!
LAMOCU PRODUCTIONS FANTASY BAND
Bass Player- Joe Bouchard, Blue Oyster Cult
Keyboardist- Keith Emerson, Emerson, Lake & Palmer
Drummer- Neil Peart, Rush
Lead Guitarists- Gary Richrath, REO Speedwagon & Pete Townsend, The Who
Extra Musician- Alto Reed, Bob Seger

Tomorrow Night at InSights!

Remember tomorrow night, the debut of Will Springsteen here at InSights. Everyone here at Lamocu feels this young man is primed for success. It is our pleasure to announce his coming out party for this Saturday. It actually will be a "double shot" of Springsteen tomorrow night, Emily Springsteen, Will's talented cousin will be warming up for him. "Excellent!" said Wayne.

Tickets are $10 adults, $5 children or students w/ ID. Doors open at 7pm, show begins at 8pm.

Please come check out the Springsteen Show! You won't be sorry that you did and you'll know other times you spent more...and got less entertainment---guaranteed!

More announcements over the weekend, Happy Easter, enjoy life and stay tuned...

Aftermath!

Well, the show Saturday was EXCELLENT! You will notice that I didn't use the term awesome, possibly the most over-used word in the past decade, but the show was definitely excellent.

If you still haven't checked out the Partly Brothers or Lauren Alm, you've been doing yourself a disservice. At least twenty people left asking if and when these two acts were going to be back, they were going to tell their friends. So when it's scheduled the announcement will be loud and clear. As the representative of Lamocu Productions & The Guild of InSightful Sound I cannot thank Luti, Brian and Lauren enough. As I stated in an earlier post, after months of growing pains, we had reached Nirvana with this show!

This weekend coming up will be an off night for us at the InSights, but April 11th Lauren Alm will be headlining our show with special guest Will Springsteen and April 18th will be our second Variety Night show. April 25th is still coming together for an all comedy night, but nothing is set in stone yet so I will keep you all posted.

On the subject of our Rock and Roll Fantasy Bands, we had a suggestion to add the "special" musician for each band. What is a "special" musician? The harmonica player, the sax player or any other musician not typically associated with rock and roll music. They give that distinction to the band and some cases the band itself develops a distinction of it's own---can anyone say Chicago?

Well got to go for now, use your imagination and have fun with this. But definitely, positively, absolutely...check out the Partly Brothers and Lauren at their My Space sites. You will be a better person by the end of the day---guaranteed! Take care and stay tuned!

Friday, March 27, 2009

This Weekend! TGIF!!!!!!

Well the Fantasy Band rolls on but we have some major news to cover today. A little confused we haven't heard from anymore Clapton fans (Israel) or the David Gilmore followers (David) but I'm sure that we will...especially since I just called them out. lol
But onto the pressing news of the day. Tomorrow night the Mega Networking Event in Lansing has been cancelled so we should expect "even more" people at our show at InSights. And why not? It's going to be a GREAT show. Not only are the Partly Brothers going to be here, but Lauren Alm is warming up for them.

Now, with the cancellation of the Mega Networking Event, seats may be at a premium AND we have a special start time of 7:30! Doors will be open at 7pm, Lauren will start shortly after 7:30 and then the Partly Brothers will start at 8:30.

Tickets will be $10 for adults, $5 for children or students with a valid ID.

For those of you that have followed our Open Mic Nights since last June, we are close to Nirvana on this one---and no, not Kurt's band! Look up Nirvana and you'll know what I mean and then know this is a show you should NOT miss!

Got to run now, enjoy the day. Hope to see you all tomorrow and above all else, stay tuned.

Thursday, March 19, 2009

Two Big Remniders!

Two big reminders...first the obvious one, that you can choose two Lead Guitarists for your Fantasy Band.

The second is the IMPORTANT one, we have a very special show this Saturday at InSights, Ms. Charlene Berry in concert with her dulcimer. Opening for Ms. Berry will be David Haslem. Don't miss this one!

Tickets $10 for adults and $ for children and students w/ valid ID.

Our two Lead Guitarists will be unveiled tomorrow! Stay tuned.
