TGIF!

TGIF, can stand for a lot of things but the one it's most noted for is Thank God It's Friday. Now I can thank God for a lot of things but just because it's Friday is not one of them. Oh I still excite at Friday, but when you have shows on the weekend it's not like Friday is the end of the week and I can loaf and relax for the weekend. Anyways, I do have a lot to be thankful for and tomorrow's show IS one of them.


For one thing, tomorrow represents our first show at The Well! The performers for Rockin' 4 Gleaners and myself are very excited about this venue. Not only has this facility opened their arms to us, they have jumped on board to become a sponsor for our shows. That may not mean much to some, but to have people look at what you're doing and see "value" in it and put their name on it, like The Well and Buffalo Wild Wings have done, is priceless. I'm thankful to our two sponsors and know that with their credibility we're going to grow even more.


Also, The Well was there when we were in limbo, unsure of our next step. That's something to be thankful for! Being our first show there we're also thankful for all the friends who have said they will come and help out with various tasks throughout the evening. Knowing that you will never have a second chance to create a first impression, makes all of us at Lamocu "thankful" for our friends.



Then there are the performers for Rockin' 4 Gleaners, we're thankful we have met and established relationships with them. We're thankful for Gleaners, not so much for what they do for us, but what they do for our community! Being associated with Gleaners is an honor we do not take lightly. It is a privilege to be a small part of what they do. Thanks Michelle---you're the greatest!




Hopefully tomorrow we will get a promo photo of Mr. Hyde to show you (every attempt before has failed, lol) but we would be remiss if we didn't give thanks to them. Mr. Hyde is compromised of three individuals who refuse to let their dream die. They're not kids and have been told they are "...too old to rock and roll but too young to die..." but will not surrender to such thoughts! And thank God for that! They have been an inspiration for all of us here; in fact Bill Welsh, the founder of Flannel Nation records, is the lead singer of Mr. Hyde, so you know they are people dear to our heart. But until that promo picture comes through, we are destined to show you the other two performers we are thankful for and they are NOT too old to rock and roll. We're very thankful we have met...

With all that said, we need to conclude with a very special thank you to God for letting us do what we do for a living! Rockin' 4 Gleaners!

Saturday, November 21st, 2009 come to the Insights Bldg. in Brighton to help raise awareness and funds for Gleaner's Food Bank here in Livingston County. Show will start and 7pm, admission is $10 but you will receive a $5 food coupon good at Buffalo Wild Wings in Howell.

Bring no food, this is not a food drive. Gleaners can do more with CASH!!! Try and bring a little extra cash to support our performers that night and their merchandise sales. Lamocu is very proud of the efforts these performers are putting together to make this event happen. It will be hosted by Uptown Sound and their band, Mr. Hyde and will feature two of our favorites...A Hero Falls & City Limit. Fusion @ The Well!

Fusion entertainment has a huge show at The Well tonight, unfortunately I cannot attend...but you still can! One of our favorite bands, A Hero Falls is performing so get there if you can. Of course it's competing with "friday night lights" but if you're into that, by all means get there.

The Well is located at 7191 Grand River, same side as Rollerama just two miles away from I-96's exit 145. "Just" behind a place called InSights that you people that follow this blog may be familiar with. By the way, you'll see the sandwich sign out front for tomorrow's show at InSights, that's when you'll know when to turn. lol But rock on tonight, our best to Nate and the gang of A Hero Falls!

T-shirts & Open Mic

A Hero Falls is asking input from their fans on their tee shirt styles. Several advanced orders were placed last Saturday when the band was here at InSights, but that is just the tip of the iceberg as they say. Five Star Screenprinting is offering some fantastic packages that ALL performers should be looking at, check them out on Facebook for more information.

Last week Lamocu connected with Tarzan Marketing on items for performers to sell, everything from bumper stickers to guitar picks and we're scheduled to meet with them next Tuesday here at InSights.

Finally, Lauren Alm is this week's featured artist at our Open Mic night. Doors open at 7, show begins at 8. Tickets as always are $10 for adults, $5 for children. More later, stay tuned.

A Hero Falls returns to InSights!

A Hero Falls returns to InSights on June 6th! Lamocu Productions is very excited about this show and proud to be associated with these young people. Rarely do you see talent and personality go hand in hand, but such is the case here. I mean I loved Ritchie Blackmore (Deep Purple and Rainbow) a genius with the guitar but, also a known creep to work with. His temper was legendary and when he would lose his temper at a DP concert it would force the remaining members to work that much harder to put on a good show for the audience---I have the dvd to prove it. lol It is documented that you could "almost" make an entire band (except Lead Guitarist of course) out of the musicians he had fired from Rainbow. But such is not the case with these young people at all. They all have good heads on their shoulders and are a pleasure to be around. We at Lamocu have been very impressed not only their talent but with their personality, intelligence & professionalism.

If you think that you don't hear enough good news about young people, only the bad, you're in for a treat with A Hero Falls. It is hard rock make no mistake about it, but it is rock and roll that all ages can appreciate and enjoy. They are our "new" favorite around here and feel confident you will feel the same once you see them. Check out their link to MySpace or find them on Facebook.

A Hero Falls, an AWESOME Debut!

Well to call this a "debut" is pushing it considering all the gigs this band has had in the last few months but... they had not played in their hometown until Saturday night. The word success doesn't completely describe what happened here at InSights, a more accurate description would be "magical". Yes it was a magical evening when A Hero Falls made their debut in Livingston county, and it was long overdue!

For those of you who have seen A Hero Falls, but did not attend Saturday, you saw a different band. Because on Saturday was the debut of their new lead singer April. If you thought they were good before, you're in for a treat. April brought back memories of Pat Benatar for me personally (ironic we just finished femal lead singers for our Fantasy Bands isn't it) and they kicked serious a#$!!!!!

We had them booked for a return visit before they left the building Saturday night! This June will be the one year anniversary of Open Mic Nights here at InSights and we're very proud to have A Hero Falls kick off this very special month for us.

Excitement!

Once again, this is very important...Tonight at Crazy Wisdom Tea Room it's The Partly Brothers (on left) from 8:30 to 10:30 and tomorrow night at InSights it will be A Hero Falls at 8pm.

Catching up!

Whew, what a show! The second Variety Show was a huge success and we're still recovering from it. We can already feel the steam building up for next months which will be on May 16.

Southern Drive kicked things off Saturday night and we never looked back! Found new talent in Brandi Nicole and Jetty Rae, both from Ann Arbor as well as learned that the Springsteen family is just full of talent---not just Will! This Saturday will be our first "all comedy Open Mic Night" and we're gearing up for that right now.

As for our Fantasy Bands, we are heading into the home stretch this week with the category of Lead Singer(s). Now before we end up in hours of debate, we're going to do something similar to what we did with Lead Guitarists---allow you to have TWO; one female and one male. Now if you're set on your Lead Singer and don't have to cross genders, cool. But for some of us, myself included, we can't pick one sex over the other, so why bother? Like I said if you already have one you're in love with, stick with it and you don't have to consider the other gender at all.

Now where the debate really comes in is with female rock singers, WHEN did they first appear? Who was the first? Well, some of us are old enough to remember Motown and if you accept that as a part of the early days of rock and roll, then there is an assortment of female singers such as Diana Ross and Martha Reeves to choose inspiration from. Martha, was immortalized in the John Mellencamp anthem "Rockin' in the USA" for instance. The ladies have been here almost from the beginning, just sometimes not getting the exposure or airplay as their male counterparts, but here nonetheless.

Nowadays maybe Gwen Stefani comes to mind or you still might know who Stevie Nicks is. But I'm here to tell you rock and roll has gone through many changes over the years and the ladies we're part of it. In the seventies rock and roll had a mellow side to go along with the hard rock and singers like Joni Mitchell, Carole King, Carly Simon and even Linda Ronstadt were heard on the FM AOR (Album Oriented Rock) stations throughout America. Oh yes, there are people that deny it, but it happened. These are the same people who deny that America, James Taylor, Gordon Lightfoot and Seals & Croft were ever heard on rock stations---but they were so tell them to get over it!

But soft rock gave way to punk and then alternative so there are some who say female rock singing started with Deborah Harry of Blondie, Annie Lennox of The Eurythmics and Pat Benatar. Fair enough. Fleetwood Mac made international stars of Christine McVie and Stevie Nicks at about the same time so there was variety depending on what you're tastes were. The first all female rock band came about named The Runaways and gave us future hard rockers Lita Ford and Joan Jett. Then came Vixen and...well let's just say there is a lot of ground to cover so don't limit yourselves. So there you have it, pick up to two Lead Singers, one male and one female and tell us WHY.

A Hero Falls, May 2nd!

Lamocu Productions is pleased to present - A Hero Falls on May 2nd at InSights! This will be the bands first appearance on our stage and it's been a long time in the making. A Hero Falls has no problems getting gigs on their own so they have been booked almost solid for the last two months. I'm giving you all fair warning, mark this date on your calender, May 2nd. More on this great show later, make a point of not missing this one!

And don't forget we have our 2nd Variety Show tomorrow night at InSights. Tickets for all shows are $10 for adults and $5 for children or students w/ ID.
