A week from this Saturday at Performances @ The Well, Spoonful Blues Band is performing for the Faith Medical Clinic fundraiser. Show starts at 8, doors open at 7:30 and tickets are just $10.

This Saturday is the fundraiser for the Michigan Musician's Collective. If you have never been to their site and not familiar with what they do and the services they provide performers, you're missing out. This is a group we are proud to be part of and support. We have a great line up of M.M.C. members performing as well as members from a couple Meet Up groups coming to check out our shows. Please pass the word on this Saturday to anyone you know who loves music, the M.M.C. is helping keeping the dream alive for hundreds of local performers. The site has some costs through Ning and to this day, the administrators of the site still haven't charged their/our members any dues. To keep this alive we want to raise the funds for Ning. We can do it, we've easily raised that kind of money before. Pass this on.

Our February show will be for the Faith Medical Clinic and our featured performer for this Blues show will be The Spoonful Blues Band.

Our March show will be for Kiwanis International's Key Leader teen camp here in Howell and the entertainer will be the rising stand-up comic Trevor Smith.

Had great meetings with two Kiwanis clubs, Vega Foods and Whitmore Lake Junior Football this week! Excited to show these new clients what we are capable of.:)

Heard "That Smell" by Lynard Skynard the other day and it's STILL the best duo lead guitar I have ever heard!

Heard "Five Guitars" by Blue Oyster Cult live the other day, it had been recorded in Detroit---I was there! If you haven't heard this piece it starts out with an awesome bass solo by Joe Bouchard, who is still the best in the business.

Line up is coming into place for our January show for the MMC, sponsors are coming on board for the February show for the Faith Medical Clinic two Kiwanis clubs have committed to 150 tickets for our St. Patty Day's show. Have to run, open mic at Kahuna coffee today and then my play's cast party at Pete Baird's house later. Until next time, stay tuned.

You know I can take losing, I can even take a terribly officiated game at times. Playing through a terribly officiated game is the sign of a Great team, and I have always dreamed of the Lions being a Great team...but yesterday was too much. To think they almost still won it is amazing. Four penalties...no I should say four Mistakes --- some being bad non calls, in the first half told me all I needed to know about the game. I'm proud to say I'm a Lions fan and always will be. The zebras messed with what could have been a great game, win or lose. I hope those zebras working at the Outback Bowl today---Go State!

Open Mic @ PB&B in WL

Here I am blogging at my new hangout, Peaberry Bean & Beats.   Getting ready for the new year and planning to be here every Wednesday night for Pamela's Open Mic night.   Very cool environment and atmosphere, quite inspirational to be honest.   Looking forward to this mid-week "pick me up" built into my schedule for the future.

Last night was even more exceptional since it was Pamela's *%$# birthday and her staff surprised her with wine, cheesecake and presents.   I also met another "regular" there, someone I had not seen in my previous visits and I believe her name was Connie.   All I can say is that I was captivated by this person---she won't remember me but for a few minutes we seemed to be on the same wave-length.   For a brief moment everything seemed right, though those of you who follow my ramblings know that I fall in love on the average "once a week" but this was very different.   Seriously. So I won't bore you with all the predictable things like how great her smile was etc etc., but everything DID seem perfect in the world for those brief moments (smile was exceptional by the way).

I mention this really only to point out the very cool people you can meet at the PB&B. What made it so cool was that this "Connie" and I don't travel in the same worlds. She, is educated, does important things with money...I'm an ex roadie :) Probably the only thing we have in common is the PB&B, but that's okay, the encounter is something I will always cherish.   Which brings us full circle on this posting...scheduling things for the following year.   I plan on being at the PB&B at the same time most days, blogging at first then developing a video broadcast from here possibly.   This is good for a number of reasons with business potential, but it also may increase the odds of another "cherished moment".

We had a special moment on Monday that we got to share with our children. First we delivered the toys taken in Saturday at our last Performances @ The Well, then went to Gleaners to deliver the check from last Thursday's Caerusnet party. Having your children see the results of your efforts, see your work appreciated is priceless in itself and one memory I know I will treasure for ever.

At the Livingston county drop off point for Toys For Tots we took an autographed poster from last Saturday's show. Our fundraiser wasn't like the typical one for this charity, usually businesses have store fronts that toys can be dropped off at and then delivered later to the Toys For Tots site. WE raised toys by charging admission to our show, sort of different, so the poster helped explain what we do and how. And they seemed impressed, very thankful for our efforts. Oh did I forget to say our kids got to see us in our glory? Of course I did :) My daughter made the observation that "our" box, from charging admission, was fuller than "some" others that had been delivered---I smiled, thanked her for noticing that and told her she got to share in one of the joys of my job---then she smiled.

At Gleaners it was more of the same good feelings. What made this delivery so special was the day I got around to doing it---Monday. I had been near Gleaners last Friday, the day after the Caerusnet party, but just didn't get around to making the delivery. Well God works in mysterious ways, it wasn't meant to be delivered on Friday---because Monday was "double" day for all donations! That meant the check from Caerusnet's party for $300, now had a value of $600. From 300 cases of food to 600 cases OR 900 Christmas dinners jumped to 1800! The sweet smell of success!

People ask if there is a lot of money in what we do and I say "not really, but the 'good feelings' are priceless." Until next time, keep your stick on the ice and "stay tuned".

This past Friday evening had a great time at the Greater Brighton Area Chamber of Commerce's annual Christmas party.   Oops, I said "Christmas" instead of "holiday"----mean no offense to anyone, just my way of looking at things :)   But a great time was had by all, love was in the air as well as quite a bit of good nature d bs:)

Next week is the Caerusnet party at the Martini Bar in Brighton.   Featured performers will be Alan Smith (no not me, the talented one) and Ron Boyd while we celebrate the holiday season and raise funds for Gleaner's Food Bank.

The following evening is the InSights holiday celebration up the street at the art gallery behind Bagger Dave's and this Alan Smith (not the musician, the has been actor, me) will be performing there. The following night the night we live for, the third Saturday of the month----Performances @ The Well.   For December our cause we're proud to announce is Toys For Tots, our featured performers are KayLyn Pace from Dexter HS and Forget The Obvious from Pinckney HS.

Discovered the neatest place couple of weeks ago and I have to share. First of off I have always wished for a coffee house I could feel comfortable in, one where they speak the same creative language that I do. Well I think I have found it. It's called The Peaberry Bean & Beats on Barker Rd. in Whitmore Lake.

Talking and enjoying music in a relaxed atmosphere has been a craving for a long time. And I can be productive there. Let's face it, the chaos that is typical in the Lamocu office can be detrimental :) To get away, re-focus and re-energize is crucial and necessary for our survival. The idiots down the hall arguing over Clapton vs. Hendrix gets old fast---and that's when there IS an intellectual discussion being attempted.

Owned and operated by Pamela Sanderson, an accomplished singer and musician in her own right, the Peaberry Bean & Beats is a place I'm happy to be calling a "second home". Not only does Pam and her staff have great drinks they feature an array of fresh baked good, home made soups and sandwiches as well. Now what makes this coffee shop sooo different, what makes me feel sooo comfortable there is the devotion they have to music. Yes, music plays there (and not the Yanni stuff you hear at most coffee houses) but it's more than just a "theme" with Pam; they give lessons in the back, they have an open mic every Wednesday from 6-9pm, they have created the caffeine Nirvana for musicians!

Today we are very proud to say that local comic Trevor Smith made his first appearance on the nationally syndicated "Bob and Tom" show.

He was a natural, totally home on the air. Having been a fan of "Bob and Tom" for years, I've heard them interview many, many comics and everyone on the show truly seemed to enjoy Trevor's bits.

Whew, this is exhausting, lol. Anyways I shared with you what a great time me and the crew had at the 1st Annual Summer Music Festival put on by the M.M.C., The following Tuesday I had the opportunity to MC the Second Annual Kahuna Coffee charity fundraiser and classic car show! What a cool event and one that I was really pleased to be able to do.

Performances @ The Well returns this month with a fundraising show for Alzheimer's on Saturday, Sept. 17th.

For those of you not familiar with Kahuna Coffee they are located at the corner of old US-23 and M-59 in Hartland. The name has gone under several owners so if you haven't been there in the last two years since Cathi took over, ... you haven't been there:) The M.M.C. holds regular open mics there and Cathi deserves your patronage; she has a heart of gold and just does everything to help others. In today's world of cut-throat business, it is a absolute joy to work with Cathi. Stop by and "experience" the difference she makes.

We are chairing the Brighton Octoberfeast for the Chamber Ambassadors. This restaurant crawl will take place on Tuesday, October 18th from 5-9pm. This is a great opportunity for us to show our skills and we appreciate it.

Today we "officially" expand into the Ann Arbor market. More later so stay tuned.

Ok I know I'm slack on this and I am working on being better...but I have to catch up on blogging. I mean, I have stuff to talk about from last week. You're reading along seeing "dated" material and wondering why this lazy stiff (me) doesn't get up off his keaster and blog in a more timely manner? And it's a good, valid question----and don't have an answer :) So here goes:

The Summer Music Festival put on by the Michigan Musicians Collective last week was ... Awesome! I know at times it didn't like that to the workers there, but it was. It's hard to look at success objectively when you're right in the middle of the activity, but me and the rest of the Lamocu crew were eager to point out all the positives the M.M.C. had going for it. The biggest success of all is that for "next" year, they have one of the greatest marketing tools available---they will be able to say it's the SECOND ANNUAL! That screams volumes to potential advertisers and sponsors. Yeah it's not as prestiges as "the twenty-fifth anniversary" or "fifteenth annual" but hey, you know how many events fold after the first time? Too many.

My personal thanks to Bob, Dave, Doc, Kees, Annie, Cathie and everyone there who made Lamocu feel so welcome. Special thanks to Johnny Awesome (yes that's really his name...or he's in the Witness Protection Program, we're not sure) for being himself---if you've had this pleasure that says it all :) Appreciate the culinary tips from Dave on when the correct time is to add "special herbs & seasonings" to melted butter---sound advice and not the kind you get from Rachel Ray;) Bottom line, our hats are off to the M.M.C. of which we, Lamocu Productions is proud to be a member of.

Summer Music Festival is here!

What a Great weekend of local music! First the 1st Annual Summer Music Festival being put on by the aforementioned M.M.C. (see first paragraph) goes through Sunday afternoon----Then at the Kiwanis Gazebo show in Brighton, Bill and Erin are warming up for Steve King & The Diddlies at 6:30pm.

Don't ever say there is nothing to do! And don't EVER say we don't have talent around here! It's real, it's excellent and worth taking in EVERY minute of it. Yes despite people that are named after animals---like Moose, music lives on for all of us:)

We are close to finalizing the upcoming schedule for Performances @ The Well, not only for the rest of this year but 2012 as well. Details will be forthcoming. It looks though like the September 17th show will be for Alzheimer's and the forms of dementia. Have to run now, too much to do and too little time. Take care and stay tuned.

Also next weekend, leading up to the Kiwanis Gazebo shows is the First Annual Musicfest being put on by the Michigan Musicians Collective. This Sunday night at 6:30 pm, KayLyn Pace will be performing at the Kiwanis Gazebo Show prior to the Paradise Band. KayLyn just placed second in the K105.3 Radio Jackson Fair last night. A second place finish that garnered her $500!

Come see this wonderful 15 year old's performance this Sunday night at the gazebo on the pond. Then stay to see one of the best local bands around, The Paradise Band with their tributes to Jimmy Buffet and Elvis. That's all for now, keep your stick on the ice and stay tuned.

We at Lamocu have been given the opportunity to chair the Chamber of Commerce's annual Octoberfeest in downtown Brighton. Very excited about the chance to display our talents and work with one of the finest group of individuals around...the Chamber Ambassadors!

The date is Tuesday, October 18th, the event will feature possibly as many as 12 local eateries and will run from 5-9pm. We are off to touch base with several establishments today in preparation for the Ambassador meeting this Thursday. Stay tuned for further developments but put that date on your calender, Tuesday October 18th---you'll be glad you did.

Let me start out by saying that this is MY Opinion, MY view of what went down and no one else's. That said, let the ranting begin...

It has been our pleasure to assist in the Kiwanis Gazebo Concerts this year that the Brighton Kiwanians put on. Celebrating their 35th year of bringing free entertainment at the duck pond in downtown Brighton is truly something to be proud of. To be asked to assist this year by supplying "opening acts" on certain Sunday evenings we felt was an honor.

Two weeks ago we began proudly showcasing some of the best talent around and things were going good. All bands that were to have a "warm up" had agreed to allow the soloist or duos to use their sound equipment. We were prepared if the performers had felt differently but all seemed willing to work with us, after all two vocalists DO NOT mess up a board. Then Sunday night hit.

And here is where I have to reiterate, this is MY Opinion and View...it has nothing to do with or have any reflection on the Kiwanis club of Brighton. But the Kiwanis club is who puts on the show, they're the promoter, they pay the bands; their posters state there will be a warm up act a half hour before the main show, they were... IGNORED.

Typically the Kiwanis shows begin at 7pm, "pre shows" start at 6:30pm, so at 5:30 we're awaiting the arrival of our "pre show" performers. All seemed going according to plan then at 5:35pm Moose of Moose & Da Sharks informed Kiwanis (again the show's sponsor, the people PAYING Moose and his band) that he would not allow anyone to use his sound board! He had every right, but he and his manager had been informed about this weeks ago and said nothing. If it was a problem, any other performer would understand and our performers were certainly willing to bring their own gear---but at 5:35pm I was sure our performers were on the road or nearly there and were walking into a disaster. Moose didn't care. Sad, very sad. I immediately tried to reach the performers and kept at it until their start time of 6:30pm. At this point I am worried, these performers are very reliable so I thought the worst. Later that evening I received a call back from one of the duo; they had been there and in trying to be respectful to Moose and his soundman, they had arrived at 5:15pm, extra early in case there were problems. We didn't know that Moose had told them, "no one warms up for Moose. No one shares the stage with The Moose" and basically sent them on their way.

Needless to say I was in shock. I apologized over and over again for what they had gone through, hoped they would not hold it against the Kiwanis club. I told them I wished they had stopped by the Kiwanis booth, thinking most people would do so to complain, but these performers are too nice. They didn't make a fuss, create a scene or anything like that. Actually they were a little in shock, they had never been treated like that by "another" performer. I'm still in shock! Moose didn't even have the decency to tell me and the Kiwanis club that he had spoke with the performers.

I'll make it up to these guys somehow...that is if they ever trust me and Lamocu again, but Moose----YOU'RE A LOSER. YOU'RE A SCAB ON THE FACE OF MUSICIANS EVERYWHERE!

You hear about prima donas like this in the entertainment world, but you figure they're FAMOUS or something like that, it's expected. But Moose & Da Sharks? Please.

This Weekend Ends

Hope everyone had a great weekend. I know there was a lot of grad parties still going on. We had our "company" party on Saturday and I'd say a good time was had by all, and why not the party was for us! David the IT head won the costume contest coming as not just as Curly, but took it a step further and came as "Bustoff" the wrestler Curly impersonates in "Grips, Grunts & Groans".
Mike McNulty, our logistics man did the best on the trivia contest, fetching an admirable 5 out of 7 correct and coming very close on the other two questions.

After warming up with some Looney Tunes we settled into our Stooge Marathon, capped off by viewing some Jethro Tull footage from Germany. Overall a good time was had by all who attended. We made plans for August which will put us in an entirely different venue next month. We, Lamocu, have been asked to assist in the First Annual M.M.C. Festival just east of here. The Michigan Musicians Collective, of which we are members of (and suggest all aspiring performers join) is putting on their first festival showcasing many of our members. To be asked to help means we have been noticed and appreciated---we can't wait. It's like a mini Woodstock, the biggest event (aside from some golf outings) that we have been a part of. To be recognized and given an opportunity --- we are handling Hospitality, Merchandising and some promotion---is very exciting to us. Thanks to Bob Clarke (Cowboy Bob) for believing in us and given us this chance!

Last night at the Kiwanis Gazebo Concerts, Rick & John once again made us look good. First ever warm up act in 35 years of shows. So the park wasn't totally full when the boys started playing (people so use to the 7pm start time) but as the crowd arrived for the 7pm show they were appreciative and responded to Rick & John quite favorably. We have seen Rick & John some half a dozen times at least but hearing their melodies carry over the duck pond into downtown Brighton was magical. Rick & John will be working with us again in September at the Spartan Gala put on by the M.S.U. Alumni. Overall a great weekend of music and entertainment.

Performances @ The Well takes a different direction this month. We're going to let the winner of the 50/50 decide where the money raised goes to. So we're concentrating on our party. Nothing elaborate, some beverages, kick back and watch some good videos. It's what made us what we are.

If you were like me you got to see some fireworks over the weekend. Amusement parks and fireworks are two things that always seem to bring me back to childhood. It had been years literally since I sat on the grass lakeside and watched the local fireworks. I felt alive again, refreshed, rejuvenated. Maybe that's why it's such a good way to celebrate our nation's birthday---and it's right in the dead of summer, sort of like a "hump day" for the season. Ah it was grand.

Unfortunately there was such a lull between sessions, you weren't sure when they were done. So, like many of us on this side of the lake, we began to wander home only to see the massive display that lit up the sky when we were back in the sub. Shame on us, it wasn't like we had anything better to do :) Next year, we'll stay for that reason.

Things are picking up for the Michigan Musicians Collective first festival coming up in August. For more details click on their web site and follow the discussions. Profile sheets for the artists are due soon.

In July, Performances @ The Well is taking a new twist and holding a 3 Stooges film festival with games and activities for the entire family. The charity this month will be designated by the winner of the monthly 50/50 drawing. More details coming soon for this special Lamocu party but mark your calender now, July 16th, 8pm at the Well.

NOW FOR SOME RANDOM THOUGHTS & OBSERVATIONS

Recently through networking I have been involved with a couple disturbing discussions. Sharing them here just to "air" them out, get them out our mind and clear our thought process.

One topic was how the Muslims are successfully reinvesting funds in American culture. It was said that if we knew "half" of what was going on we would be amazed. Did we want to know more? Possibly...then it got onto the Muslims avoidance of pork. What's the connection we wondered...well apparently since we can't be totally sure of where Muslim money is going, it was recommended that we wipe all of our money in bacon so that when the money does eventually get in the hands of a Muslim, it will be tainted and unholy to them...Interesting.

At this point I needed another drink. I already had one but, it didn't seem strong enough, actually it seemed too strong, so I switched to water.

I had not walked five feet before I bumped into a conversation on the latest artificial sweetner. I had already heard bad things about this product, and for years have avoided artificial sweetners myself but there was new news...it was revealed that the chemical makeup of this sweetner was VERY similar to that of Agent Orange.
I then chugged my water and went back to my drink.

It is at times like this that I am glad I get lost in Rock & Roll. Despite what you hear out there folks, have a safe and happy Fourth of July. Forget the negative and celebrate all that is great about this country, who we are and how we got here. Until next time, keep your stick on the ice and stay tuned.

I know it's been awhile since I wrote anything...and it's all my fault. You know those "self pity" moments that can take over and infect your whole existence? Well that has what descended onto me these last two weeks. I could bore you with details...but even I wouldn't even want to read that----:) So suffice to say I'm hopping back on the saddle and attacking the world! Ok, that sounded better in my head than it looked just then on the screen---lol. You, our faithful followers deserve better! But, knowing that I know what that feeling is like, maybe we can vent together sometime...I'm always here.

Well bahhumbug with the above. We got some great comments on the Bass Player entries, now is the time for our Lead Guitarist. Yes the guy or gal that will be in your Fantasy Band and why is next. And for those whose favorites bands have TWO leads guitarists (ie Lynard Skynard) you do not have to choose, same rules apply.

Next Performances @ The Well will be a Tribute to Hospice! It is almost a year to the day that my father passed away at Arbor Hospice. Recently a good friend saw his mother ascend to Heaven with the assistance of Hospice so the timing seemed perfect. We have several organizations, particularly National Staffing in Whitmore Lake helping with the promotion. If you have been touched by Hospice or know someone that has, please join in this event. It is our hope that this will become an annual show here at Performances @ The Well.

In the meantime, here's some Lead Guitarist suggestions. Take care, keep your stick on the ice---by the way who do we root for in the Cup Finals? Bruins are an Original Six, haven't won it in awhile, I'm sure it would make Don Cherry happy. Then again the Canucks have never won it and this could keep them happy for awhile and since a Canadian team hasn't won the Cup since 1992 I believe, this too would make Don Cherry happy :) But

Ok we closed out the Bass Player competition recently. We heard from Dusty Hill fans, Chris Squire, Roger Glover, Stanley Clarke and one Geddy Lee nomination. All excellent choices, but the reasons they were nominated were even better. We got some great stories, not too many we can print...but we got stories.

Here is a reprint of an entry I wrote over two years ago about my main man Joe Bouchard. I know it's being lazy, but nothing has changed in the story :) LOL So here is my entry into the fantasy band and why.

So for my fantasy Bass Player...Joe Bouchard, a founding member of Blue Oyster Cult. I had the opportunity to meet Joe, his brother Albert and Eric Bloom back in 1978 at Discount Records the afternoon of their show in Lansing. Joe and I immediately hit it off and had a great conversation. Now I'm not going to try and tell you that Joe and I are best buds thereby making him my favorite Bass Player, but I was impressed with the genuine warmth he shared with me in our time together. Albert and Eric seemed preoccupied with the mob of fans at the store but Joe's eyes and mine met and he greeted me with a smile and asked me how I was doing. Asked ME how I was doing! This from someone who didn't have to give me the time of day. Naturally I got his autograph but the thing that I remember most is that we had a conversation! Now this STILL isn't the reason he is my favorite Bass Player. The reason is this...by the time I first saw B.O.C. later that evening I had already been to 30-40 rock shows and Joe was the first Bass Player I ever saw do a solo---and it blew me away! Since then, I have seen others attempt this feat, but none have succeeded to the level Joe did. Joe's bass playing was an integral part of the B.O.C. sound and something that (and please no offense to Eric, Don and Allan) was sadly missed when he left the band. His brother Albert left the band first, replaced by Rick Downey, but when Joe left the soul of the band left with it in my incredibly bias opinion. Again my apologies to the surviving members of B.O.C. and the individuals who replaced the Bouchard brothers, but if you want to get the "feel" of the B.O.C. check out albums up to, but not past "Fire of an Unknown Origin". Would I still see B.O.C. when they come to town even without the Bouchards---yes, just like I would still go to see Pete and Roger from the Who, but I think even they would agree they're not the same with out Keith and John.

This Saturday night is our monthly fundraising show and we're raising funds for the Well's Mission Trip to Mexico. Performing will be Right Turn Only, doors open at 7, show will begin at 8.

We're pleased to say that we have some great "bucket raffle" items to help raise money. Karen Huckabone the photographer has given us a coupon as has Sue Stevenson, the Pilate instructor at Hamburg Fitness. Then, Karla Griscom from LaFontaine came through with TWQ free oil changes. Our friends Right Turn Only will be performing at the Well on Saturday, May 21st at 8pm. This May performance in our series will be helping raise funds for a mission trip to Mexico later this summer.

Ron Boyd (guitarist extraordinaire) and Christina Miller (uke & sweet vocalist) and I have formed a band, "New Tattoo," that will be giving a special performance this Thursday, May 12, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm, at Kahuna Coffee in Hartland. We will be performing a mix of original tunes and familiar folk, rock, country, and blues songs. This is a preview of our scheduled performance this summer in downtown Milford. Admission is free so come on down and check it out.

Kahuna coffee has a great food menu in addition to their coffee, tea, and smoothies, and is fast becoming a popular music venue. Next Saturday the 14th, from 11pm to midnight, KayLyn Pace will be performing in downtown Dexter for Relay for Life. They are attempting to have music downtown for 24 hours to support the participants. If you have ever been to Dexter you know it's a charming little town with a great park right in the center of town, great for music. We shall be there supporting KayLyn and the other performers, hope to see you there as well.

Oh and we got a nomination for all time bass player from Dave Gibbons, and it is Dusty Hill from ZZ Top. Dave gave some great semi finalists but gave his reason for settling on Dusty was because "he just likes the blues". And Dave, that.s good enough for us. We at Lamocu salute Dusty Hill of ZZ Top.

It's been a great weekend for sports around here, Justin got a second no-no and the Wings (sigh) are still alive. To add to that the weather in this state seems to have FINALLY broke. Contest Update!

Someone mentioned that this really wasn't a contest because there is no prize. I thought about it, ran it through some people and came to the conclusion that Yes, there is no prize! Now that has been said (lol) I wanted to address something that I am sure has been on everyone's mind..."what do we do for Lead Singer?" Good question. Some bands the lead singer is also the Lead Guitarist or play some other instrument and that puts them in two catagories. In cases like that you may end up with more than one playing that particular instrument or two singers. The crossover is unavoidable, don't lose sleep over it. Actually if you think about it for more that 30 seconds blood will come out your nose. But the bigger question we have gotten is "Can we have a male and female lead singer in our band?" Of course you can! That's what makes it your all-time fantasy band.

The Picture of Linda here is because we were "thinking" of female lead singers and, well this image from 1978 came up. So stay tuned for more on the horizon.

Now I know what some of you are saying "hey, he's he same guy you had last year" and I will say "yeah, he is. Thanks for paying attention" lol But I'll leave you with that for today, see if anyone remembers "why" Joe made my list, since "it's the same as last year" :) But awaiting your comments and input, let's have some fun.

It's not very often these blood shot eyes get up and do a post the morning after a show...but today is different. Last night was GREAT. Darnell Anderson and his troupe performed gave this area a glimpse of what comedy is all about.

Half standup and half improv was virtually a show without flaw. These performers may be young, but they are very professional, very polished and a joy to watch. I could go on, I'll have to write more later, like I said this isn't easy with bloodshot eyes :) I just HAD to tell you about the show though, cuz comedy night in this county may be coming very soon. For those of you that were there, you were a part of history, for those of you who weren't---you'll wish you were.

Sorry about the previous post, we usually like to stay on the side of entertainment but that expo rant was needed. So, back to the really important issues at hand, tomorrow nights show.

Performances @ The Well for April will be featuring a comedy show raising money for Pinckney H.S. Football. We are fortunate to have Darnell Anderson hosting a half stand-up, half improv show that has been in development for several months. Comedy is needed in this area so this could be the beginning of something big here. You will want to be present this Saturday. Tickets will be available at the door as well as on Eventbrite.

As for our band contest, entries have been slow, you all are probably waiting for our first nomination to set the stage. Well, it's been slow and we don't want to detract from tomorrow's show, but we have eliminated Chris Squire from our Bass player competition. Nothing against Chris, just that we're leaning more towards either Roger or Joe as our all-time Bass player.

It's not too often that I jump on a "soap box" and vent my opinion on something, but this has my dander up and I don't care who knows. We're proud to say we're Ambassadors for our local Chamber and as so we have been working on a business expo for our Home Based members. We were excited about the possibilities, some home based businesses feel the Chamber doesn't do much for them, this was a chance to eliminate that myth.

Things were looking good until a major sponsor pulled out, after saying they would be involved. Interesting and do you want to know why? Through informed sources we have heard it was because the event was to take place on a Saturday? Now if you're looking for a second line of income or to change your career, chances you can't research such things while you're at your day job---if you're lucky enough to have a job. And if you don't have a job and are looking for opportunities, it really doesn't matter that it's on a Saturday does it? But the would be sponsor, Comcast cable, doesn't promote on weekends I guess. For some reason the day Saturday ruined it for them.

Now if you're a home based business, one without a store front, this would be a great opportunity to expose yourselves. Well it would have been a great opportunity. What does this say about the cable giants support of small business? I wonder how many home based businesses use Comcast for their services? I wonder how many WONT after this? If I had my way I'd say none.

I can't wait to see their next marketing campaign directed at small business; I'm sure it will have the words "bundling", "saving", "results" but in fine print will be the escape clause that says "we don't do weekends".

As promoted, we have made our all time band lists an annual affair. Granted it's been more than a year since we did the "first" one...that was only due to ... well, a lot of things, but that doesn't matter now. What matters that it's annual now, every year from now on (near or around Opening Day) we will have this. It was fun last time, a few arguements, one divorce but overall a great time. So let's see if we can build on that or completely destroy society.

Here's how it goes, we give you our nominee for all time band member and tell you why. We encourage you to comment. Tell us we're crazy, we've missed the boat---whatever but just tell us why. And Ideally you tell US who your all time band member at that position is. We share some memories and enjoy music together.

Web Site Launches

Today I did a presentation in front my BBB networking group (ask me sometime what BBB stands for) and gave a tour of our new web site. It's still developing in many ways but people can see where were going.

We also unveiled our first DVD package today and like the site, its still developing as well. But also like the site, I think people have a clearer idea of what our goals are. Got good news on the company truck today and just can't say enough good things about LaFontaine! So I won't try in this limited space---but I would if I could :)

One last reminder, this Saturday I will be making a fool of myself doing improv with professionals. There should be some magical moments of humiliation that you will be able to hold over me for years on this night. But only if you come, you have to come. We want to bring comedy to this area on regular basis, but we need numbers to make it happen. So come and laugh with us, enjoy your Saturday night out.

Performances @ The Well for April, 2011 is this Saturday @ 7:30 pm featuring Darnell Anderson's Loozapalolla comedy show. Darnell and his friends do one set of standup and one set of improv. Local Businessman Dares!

Well we're into the final week leading up to Loozapalolla. All systems seem to be in place and now we have a local celebrity willing to tackle the world of the unknown, the world of spontaneous combustion, the world of improv. Yes, much to the dismay of most, one local businessman is daring to try his talents in front of a live audience.

Can it be embarrassing? Certainly. Can it be humiliating? Certainly. But that is what makes this experience so challenging and hopefully, so rewarding. A former actor and free lance emcee has no fear in front of an audience---but then "most" of the time he knows what to expect; such will not be the case on Saturday. So stop in and see us, we guarantee even if this guy isn't funny, the rest of the show will be. Until later, stay tuned.

Loozapalolla April 16th!

Darnell Anderson's Loozapalolla tour hits Brighton a week from this Saturday. For those who have wanted, desired, and pined away for comedy in our area, this is your chance. Darnell brings a combination of stand-up and improv in his show.

The first part of Loozapalolla will be stand-up with Darnell and several of his associates---All Veteran Stand-ups---the second part of the show will be improv.
We at Lamocu are very excited about this show, as it could be the beginning of something regular here in town.

We have personally known Darnell for over four years now and have enjoyed watching his career grow. You will find Darnell to be one of the most charming and charismatic entertainers you have ever experienced---he's funny!

So take note of the new start time, 7:30 and come experience a night out of fun and laughter. Darnell and his associates are putting together the best show they know how...and trust us, they do know how!

We at Lamocu are looking forward to bringing comedy to Livingston County and feel this will be something we will build on. The humor will be clean but basically PG-13 fair, with the first 45 minutes devoted to Stand-Up and the second segment featuring Improv. Rumor has it, that there will be a celebrity guest trying his luck in the improv arena. That guest...the "other" Alan Smith from Lamocu Productions.

Tonight's the night KayLyn Pace headlines for the first time! Are you going to be there? Tickets are still available at the door for $10. Showtime is 8pm with doors opening at 7:30. This month's show is to help raise funds and awareness for LACASA here in Livingston county.

In the tradition of the young Disney starlets that our daughters (depending on their age) idolized---like Hilary Duff, Lindsey Lohan (when she was Disney teen, not now) and most recently Miley Cirus, KayLyn IS that young teenager who sings. The exception is that she is REAL, she's not t.v., she's a 16 yr. old phenom from Dexter and kids her age and younger (little girls) love her. If you experienced any of those Disney stars with your daughter you know what I mean---and that's what makes this so cool, it's happening live before our eyes! And we at Lamocu are excited and grateful to be able to share in it.

If you're a parent, you owe it to you and your kids to see KayLyn. If you're tired of hearing negative news about our young people, you owe it to yourself to see KayLyn. KayLyn Pace is everything thats positive about our youth; KayLyn Pace is something positive FOR our youth.

Day 5 Gilda's Laughfest.

Well, I hated to see the week come to an end but, you know that tired feeling you get at the end of vacations because you've been on the go? That started to hit me on Friday afternoon, I was "almost" not looking forward to the Bob & Tom Allstars, but I DID say almost.

Once at the Ford Fieldhouse I was so glad I hadn't cancelled. I rejuvinated upon entering the facility. I saw "general admission" seating with almost no seats taken and went to town. Aisle seat, no two aisle seats because no one would believe I would go to a function all by myself...and no one did.

Saw a most impressive line up of Greg Warren, Costaki Economopoulos, Pat Dixon, Dwight Slade and one of my favorites, Tammy Pascatelli. The end of the evening was the best! They had announced that the performers would be in the back of the hall selling cd's and meeting the audience so I was geeked about that. As I move with the crowd leaving, I do not see any of the comics. So immediately tried to locate said performers and their wares, saw a small opening where a group was gathering back in the main room. Cutting over I found my heroes with almost crowd to deal with. There was a line forming at one end of the table where Tammy was, at the other Chick Magee and Greg Warren stood apart from the activity. Being a fan of Bob & Tom I had to go meet Chick and did so.

Here's where it go really cool, I asked Chick for his autograph, he complied then I asked Greg and he complied too. At that point I noticed that there was nobody in front of any other comic except Tammy; so I asked Costaki, would he sign my poster and he did. Instead of giving it back, Costaki turns to Pat Dixon and says "this guy wants our autograph" and Pat says "cool". Then without saying another word Pat handed my poster to Dwight who signed it and then handed it to Tammy.

It was like the world stopped while I watched this piece of paper get passed down the table. As this was happening I felt as if all the other fans were staring at me, like "who I am to get such treatment?" I'm nobody, except somebody who felt sorry for Chick standing by himself :) As the poster begins its back to my end of the table I definately notice people staring at me, this time for real. But hey, I didn't design the situation, I just fell into the right set of circumstances.

Got to see the B.O.B. complex of which Dr. Grin's Comedy Club is just a part of. Fantastic structure! And downtown was hopping big time due to it being St. Patrick's Day AND, are you ready for this...Sugarland was playing across the street.

Saw Trevor Smith do almost all new material and saw several other comics I have come to know. Finally got to meet Matt Lauria which was a treat. I never get tired of seeing a room full of people enjoying Trevor's stand-up.

Tonight, The Bob & Tom All Stars at the Ford Fieldhouse. Happy TGIF everyone, stay tuned.

Day 3, Gilda's Laughfest

Had a great experience at the Dog Story Theater last night. Improv nothing like what we have seen on "Who's Line Is It Anyway", two comic actors took ONE concept and then did a one act play for the next 45 minutes! Amazing.

As for the theater itself, what they are doing at the Dog Story Theater is truly admirable. For more information on what they are doing go to www.DogStoryTheater.com. We need to have a facility like this in our home town.

While we're on it, didn't get to rant about the Orbit Room where we saw Bobby Slayton on Tuesday night. A little mini arena stuck within a maze of malls that can house over 1400 patrons. Coming soon to the Orbit Room will be classic rockers Robin Trower and Yes...for those of you under 30 you may need to Google those names, lol.

2nd Night @ Gilda Laughfest!

Saw Bobby Slayton last night and he was excellent! Bobby, known as the "pit bull" of stand up may not be a household name, but close, because he's a VERY recgonizable comic. With some movie credits and years in Las Vegas I'm sure you've experienced Bobby in some form or another. He had the audience by the throat from the minute he stepped on the stage and never let up.

In addition to being treated to a great show I had the pleasure to meet a charming Grand Rapids couple out for the evening and are coming to the St. Pat's show at Mr. Grins with me. I see more and more how this city is really embracing the festival, it could almost bring a tear to your eye or give you a chill when you think of Gilda.

As for the comparison I made to the first Super Bowl in an earlier post...I had visions of "typewriters" and people scrambling for "phone lines" to meet their deadlines. As I sat here without internet in my hotel I too worried about meeting my deadlines. How could I report about last night? How could I research what I'm doing tonight? A scene of Matheau and Lemmon from the movie Front Page popped into vision, Orson Wells was calling for Rosebud and then...the internet was restored---which is why you're reading what you're reading now.

I must conclude this installment about the great people of Grand Rapids and the killer show Bobby Slayton put on to go look for work tonight. I will be back later today with developments. Until then keep your stick on the ice and stay tuned.

Laughin' In GR Part One.

It is Monday night and I am writing this from the Howard Johnson Plaza Hotel in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Here for the first every Grand Rapids Laughfest, part Gildafest that started last Friday night and will continue through this Friday.

Having never been to the "first" of something I didn't know what to expect. Everyone here has been very friendly and several have asked what has brought me to their charming city. When I mention the comedy festival there has been a short hesitation, followed by a quick nod, "oh yes I heard of that". Not the dominant topic of conversation...yet. Reminds me of how the first Super Bowl didn't even sell out, reporters there probably experienced similar circumstances.

Bill Cosby sold out both his shows here within 3 hours. Betty White did something similar I hear. Not bad names and responses for a first year function. Something special is happening here. Word is that the Grand Rapids Comedy Festival, or Laughfest, is going to be bigger and better than some of the more established festivals like Atlanta and Detroit. So make no mistake about it, just because this isn't a "sell out"---yet, and getting a room wasn't a problem---yet, the time will come when both will be true. Though, about the rooms, I actually think Grand Rapids could hold a Super Bowl and not run out of rooms! There are soooo many hotels around here :)
It's a great convention town.

This was the fifth time I have seen KayLyn since the Brighton Summerfest and each time she amazes me. Last Friday at the Pierson Fundraiser we actually had to put out a concessions table for her stuff. She had 8x10's and posters for sale and she was autographing them, trying to build her following and it was great.

I don't know which I get a kick out of more, the older, more mature patrons who are just in amazement over KayLyn, or the little girls who just idolize her. Both are excellent to watch her interact with. Autographing her own likeness is a new step for KayLyn and she handled it with the same style and grace she has handled every other challenge in her career. She also does something real classy that a lot of older, more experienced performers could take a lesson from---she stays to see the other acts. I don't see that enough really, but she shows respect and treats others with dignity. Something that is appreciated and noted by the acts that see her there for them.

Now continuing with class let's talk 3DaddyO. By the time 3DaddyO hit the stage, the raffled items had finished and the place was clearing out. Now here's where I see a lot of performers (of all ages and experience) fall short. When there is a small crowd certain performers start to whine or hold back from their performance. They prefer to wait until the crowd is bigger etc. etc. Well I have had to tell many a band that if you're getting paid, the customer doesn't want to hear excuses. I MC and I know it is tough to put on an act for a small crowd, but I have to do it because I have been contracted to do a "show". Now here is where 3DaddyO excelled, they played a full set and everyone there loved it! When I complimented them on it they said they just get caught up in playing. If you love to play, things like audience size don't matter---how brilliant! For those of us who remained, we appreciated them and they appreciated us, it was magical. A valuable lesson for the wannabe performers out there.

Pierson Family Fundraiser first entry

The Pierson Family Fundraiser was a great success last Friday evening. Largely in part to the "heart and soul" that was behind it from the start, Anne Marie Scrivens!. Over 3800 dollars was raised for the survivors of this terrible tragedy. Channel Six from Lansing was there, interviewed several members of the family and got them on t.v.

There were so many great parts of last Friday I'm going to have to break this down into several entries. In this first one I want to give kudos out to all the great people that volunteered their time to help Anne Marie and this cause. Right now I want to thank all my friends from the BBB (Building Brighton Business) who devoted some of their time.

To Susan Dorbeck and her husband and Lou LaFrate and his charming wife it probably didn't seem like you did much, but the expression "many hands make light work" is very true. You said you didn't seem like you did much but, knowing that I, and especially Anne Marie didn't have to worry about the presentation of food and beverage, knowing we had people devoted to that very important function was priceless. Likewise with Kelly Fielding handling the 50/50 and Jen Berger & Jill Moore making vital food pickups---you guys are the best. I'm so proud to be associated with you all.

Now going back to the subject of "food", a future BBB member is Dale Lockwood of Hickory BBQ and Grill, he fed us and it was delicious. Since Dale is not officially a BBB member he gets his own paragraph you see. Now when Dale does become a BBB member, Susan Dorbeck and Lou LaFrate are going to be very educated sales people for him and his BBQ because they dined on his cuisine and loved it. Almost like the ultimate "learn and earn" there.

Anyways there are more entries coming on this event, but I need to say one more thing about food...cornbread? I have never understood the excitement over corn bread---until Friday night. Every piece of corn bread I have EVER had was dry, some less dry than others, thought that was the way it was supposed to be. But Cajun Joe's cornbread was AWESOME! Moist, tasty, man I'm salivating just thinking about it. That's all I'll say now, there's an entry coming on food :)

My namesake, Alan Smith...gosh he even spells it the right way, performed at the Ark in Ann Arbor last weekend. Way to go my man!

Here are a couple of shots of Alan's performance that night in front of an audience of 125. For those of you who are performers, you know what Alan was feeling that night.

We are very proud to claim Alan as one of our friends---because he's going to make it big and we want to smooch off of him :) I mean the identify theft angle is there...just kidding. We're very proud of our association with Alan because he is so talented and so giving. We recommend Alan to clients and always look like geniuses----which granted is hard to do and we need to take advantage of those times whenever possible---this time I'm not kidding. lol But another reason we're glad to be associated with Alan is that for years now he has been running the Stray Dog's open mic night on Wednesday's just off M-59 in Highland, Michigan. Pierson Family Fundraiser is tonight at Howell's Highlander Way Middle School from 5-9pm. The activity the last two days around this event has been phenomenal so the list of people to thank and mention just keeps getting longer. It's so sad that a reason for such a fundraiser HAS to happen, but seeing human beings of all walks of life coming together for a common goal is inspiring.

The rumor still is that Channel 6 from Lansing will be there, there was a great article about the show in yesterdays paper and you will be hearing Anne Marie's interview throughout the day on WHMI.

Auction Items Keep Coming In!

Four Red Wing tickets for a suite that overlooks center ice have been added to the auction items. Thank you to our friends at Data Pak! And this is just one of the great items that will be auctioned off on Friday at the Pierson Family Fundraiser, 5-9pm @ Highlander Way Middle School in Howell. Add this to the great food and great music you will be experiencing...why would you be anywhere else?

Another item just in, KayLyn Pace (our opening act, the 15 year old phenom from Dexter) will have 8x10's and posters for sale---her first real endeavor into merchandising! Well she has had cd's for sale before :) but these are items you can get autographed and have to cherish when this young lady makes it big! Can you tell we're some of her biggest supporters? LOL

Now our love for KayLyn is not to take anything away from 3DaddyO, these guys have a pretty serious resume. 3DaddyO has opened for some national acts and been featured at Ford Field for a Lions game. So there will be no drop off in entertainment there :) So if you haven't bought your tickets yet...I have to ask WHY? Let's get together to help this family and have a good time doing it. Just a reminder that this Friday at Howell's Highlander Way Middle School is the fundraiser for the Pierson family from 5-9pm. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for children and a family package of $40 for two or more children. Tickets are available at the school or office or through the force behind all this, Anne Marie Scrivens @ 1-517-219-3086. Listen for the WHMI interview with Anne Marie throughout the week on 93.5 FM! She thinks she talks too fast but I think she's passionate and excited and I think you'll feel the same when you hear her too.

Two fantastic acts have pooled their resources for this show AND there is going to a ton of great food there! Donations have come in from Pepsi, Cajun Joe's, Buffalo Wild Wings of Howell, The Brighton House, Chili's and Hickory BBQ & Grill. So good jams, good eats, all for a good cause.

There will be some great items to be auctioned off as well and if you've forgotten, KayLyn Pace and 3DaddyO will be performing so you're $15 is going to get you a lot! Plus the good feeling you'll have by helping this family.

As if all this wasn't enough...Channel 6 from Lansing will be covering the event so the awareness of this cause CAN continue past Friday evening. If you cannot attend but still would like to help...

Due to illnesses, untimely accidents and other things ranging from flat tires to computer viruses, there have been serious changes on our crew for this Saturday. We have to remind ourselves that we are just human and humans can break down. As the personnel situation irons itself out we plug along our course.

At this time let us review the coming events...
Right Turn Only is playing this Saturday at Performances @ The Well for Faith Medical Clinic Fundraiser, doors open @ 7, show begins at 8. Then on the 25th, 3DaddyO and KayLyn Pace will be entertaining at the Pierson Family Fundraiser at Howell Highlander Way Middle School, dinner is at 5 with KayLyn taking the stage approximately 6. Good tickets still available for both shows.

Sometime between these two shows, the "interactive" Create Your Own Classic Band will return to this site. For those of you who played along last year, be ready to be challenged more this time around. For those of you new to this site, you will be asked your opinion on the best musician for each catagory. You will be asked who your favorite lead guitar is and then the important thing---why. Why is this performer, in your opinion the very best at his position. It was a lot of fun and we're looking forward to it. The never ending debate in the editing room of Clapton versus Page heats up a bit more when we do this but that's okay, at least those two are forced to think :)

If it wasn't for the Faith Medical Clinic, the only free clinic in Livingston county, thousands would be without the health care they so desperately need. On February 19th at the Well, we have a chance to help with this predicament. I'm sure you all know the story of the Pierson family, a tragedy that has hit most of us emotionally. If you have ever thought about hugging your children, do it now and do it often. Life is too short and one can never predict the changes that can be thrown at us.

It has been our honor to assist in the Friends of the Pierson Family Fund Raiser set for Feb. 25th at Highlander Way Middle School in Howell. Anne-Marie Scrivens, a realtor in Howell, has done an amazing amount of work in putting this event together and she has come to us to fine tune some details. We appreciate the opportunity to serve and want to send out a big thank you to the community of performers who have responded to the call and wished to be part of this. When we put this out there for help we were overwhelmed with responses. To the artists of all genres, God bless you all---we are proud to be associated and work with you. With a deadline approaching, it really came down to a first come, first serve basis. That said, let us give kudos to those who will be working with Anne-Marie on the 25th.

Let me first send a shout out to Bob Clark and Kees Oosthoek that manage possibly the greatest web site any musician could know, the Michigan Musicians Collective. If you a performer you need to be connected with these guys and get on this site. If you're not a performer, go there and check out a really cool site and you will see constant updates of Open Mics and Open Jams all over the area that you can go to and enjoy great local performers. Anyways this site, http://michigan-musicians.ning.com/ was instrumental with the numbers for response and feedback we got for this show. So kudos to Bob and Kees---you guys rock!

The Excitement Builds!

Actually in retrospectiveness (is that a word) "excitement" can't do much else but build...when it stops building and reaches a climax...it turns into something totally different doesn't it? You've been there, done that, finished the experience so you may have satisfaction or disappointment...but the Excitement part of the equation is definitely done. Even if the experience in question does not happen, excitement immediately ceases to be excitement and turns into disappointment. So you see, excitement in it's most "purest" sense, can only build.

Now that we've established that little bit of trivia, there is indeed a lot of excitement around here these days...too much for us to cram into this session before the party starts. Way too much, I mean if we told you some of it now, it could take the place of this rant that you're reading right now...but then it wouldn't be a surprise you see. And what are we trying to build around here??? That's right excitement! So tune in tomorrow loyal followers to read about all the Great things that are happening and be prepared to be very very excited! Thanks to our loyal followers, now let the game/party/commercials begin!

Life Goes On...

It's funny how the day to day can become so monotonous, almost a blur really. At the end of the day you look retrospectively at what has transpired and some changes stand out, but not enough to change the trend. In the blur you see people, not always recognizing the change in them and that can be dangerous...some people intend to change, cheat and lie their way to the top. Those people have to live with themselves, but we do not have to live with them. The more you reflect on what "these" people did, the more you see their deceit and lack of character. It saddens one to think that people exist in this world just to prey. But they do.

End of the day you ponder whether some of these individuals are worth the time of day...at first you say "no"...then you realize in your pain/anger/confusion, you have slipped to the very level of humanity you so despise. You forgive, but the pain lingers. By forgiving you can move on, by forgiving you can take solace that you're NOT one of them.

To all the "predators" out there, enjoy it while you can...your day will come!

When The Dust Settled!

When all things were said and done on Saturday the 15th, there was a lot more "said" than "done". Like Keanu Reeves said in The Replacements, sometimes it seems you're in quicksand and the more you struggle, the more that goes wrong, the worse things get and so on. Saturday night was a night of quicksand.

I won't go into all that went wrong, those there know the most important "hit" we took, one that cost us credibility. We had convinced many people that this cause we were working for was worthy of their time and effort. We were wrong, some forgave us, some may never trust us again. But we must move forward! For the audience and vendors that stepped forward last Saturday---you should be applauded. For the cause...we've been giving refunds.

Now from the professional entertainment standpoint, Lauren Alm and Christopher Maas were fantastic. Those in attendance thought that these two put on a first rate show and they did. Since we have commended the vendors and audience for their efforts on this show, we need to do the same for the performers and crew. The audience, other than empty seats, did not know there were any issues and saw a first rate effort all around.

So to all our participants last Saturday, the audience, the vendors, the performers and crew-outstanding job! You make this writer proud to be associated with a such a classy and professional group of people. On Feb. 19th the classic rock cover band Right Turn Only will be performing for The Faith Medical Clinic. Until later, stay tuned.

January 15th, 2011 - The Hope For Autism Foundation

The Performances @ The Well series for 2011 kicks off on January 15, 2011 with a musical fundraiser for the Hope For Autism Foundation. The show will feature Lauren Alm from Howell and special guests. There will be certificates and coupon books to raffle and sell from our great sponsor Buffalo Wild Wings of Howell, a craft show in the afternoon leading up to the show and Tony's Hot Dogs will be handling concessions again for us. Show time is 8pm but there will be a charity craft show during the day in the Youth area up front. Lauren is a great folk singer with original and cover material that will captivate and entertain any age group. Lauren is a Howell HS grad currently attending Specks Howard for audio engineering. The new year is fast approaching and there are SO many new and exciting things to do both in work and recreation! I almost don't have time for my milk and cookies at the end of the day. Sadly, my waist line seems to find a way :)

The official web site should be done shortly, actually I think they're waiting for some info from us to finish. That said, that should be our goal during the slow holiday season. Probably won't happen until all the eggnog is gone though :)

Bill Welsh, our old friend from Flannel Nation Records has opened a guitar store in South Lyon. How cool is that? Went to the Grand Opening last week and it was great. If my schedule holds up I plan on stopping by today or tomorrow. The place is called BT's is right on Lafayette/Pontiac Trail heading into downtown, within walking distance to the Lyon Cantina. I'd give you the number but it's hard to see anyways :) 557, 575...somewhere in there probably should have looking it up before writing this post but hey, I write with feeling and I just wanted to write about Bill a couple minutes ago---lol.

Whew, isn't that what everyone says when their done shopping and "preparing" for the holidays? I hope so, cuz I said it the other day :) Anyways been sidetracked with the work for next year and finalizing our web site.

Lots of wondered what the hold up has been with our web site and it's simple, to do it the way we wanted, there were "huge" data bases to be assembled. This made the up front costs high but well worth the investment as we prepared for the future. You see the site isn't just about us, it's about the performers and charities we represent as well, so there's lots of information needed to make this complete.

Happily, we are about to see this project come to a conclusion just in time for the new year. As Carl the greens keeper would say, "so, we got that going for us." lol

One week from this Saturday we do not have an evening show for Performances @ The Well, but during the day we are putting together the first ever Craft Show at The Well. We'll still be working for a charity, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and there will still be some music (at this time we are still awaiting for some confirmations) and we have found there is some definate interest in holding craft shows in Livingston county.

We're in the process of finalizing our 2011 schedule for Performances @ The Well, but need to re-do March and April currently. What we can tell you right now is that---

January 15, 2011, Performances @ The Well will kick off the year (like 2010) with a fundraising show for the Autism Foundation and our headliner that night will be Lauren Alm.

February 19, 2011, Performances @ The Well will be raising funds for the Faith Medical Clinic---our county's only free clinic located in Pinckney.

Well I'm tempted to write more to make up, but that's not the way blogs are supposed to be. But more coming soon, until then keep your stick on the ice and stay tuned.

Well Rockin' 4 Gleaners was a success, the exact totals are to be done today. Shadowglen blew away the audience away with classic covers and their classy originals. Lauren Alm did two sets due to the size of audience she brought that night and got a paid gig out of it! How cool! This is the way it's supposed to work.

Since that time we have been blessed with the holiday of Thanksgiving and someone's long lost son made his way home to reconcile. It IS all about being thankful and I know one dad who truly is.

On Black Friday we ran a very successful blood drive for the Red Cross at the Well---24 while two other blood drives were going on in the county! Mike Lenninger made some great chili to go along with our juice and cookies and in contained a secret ingredient....M&M's. Then this writer got to spend Thanksgiving with his children at Zukey Lake Tavern. Why Zukey? Easy, KayLyn Pace was warming up for Justine Blazer, had to KayLyn again!

Our December show is shaping up to be an afternoon craft show on the 18th. It will be everyone's last chance for Christmas gifts, we'll have door prizes, music, food---just in the afternoon this time, noon-5 at the Well. More details coming as they become official.

Our first newspaper add hit the stands yesterday, today it can be seen on page 4A. There's the possibility of a write up about us tomorrow---but no guarantee. But there IS an ad :)

Tomorrow we pick up the candi we're giving away to EVERY person who comes to the show Saturday. This sweet creation is done by none other than Oh My Lolli so many thanks to them. But what is really cool is the logo, yes the logo...Performances @ The Well, thanks to Raquel at Oh My Lolli has it's own logo now to begin branding. It's slick and made three grown men go "Wow" almost simultaneously as the attachment opened for our review. These candi's are a collector's item and will only be available one night, the night of our anniversary this Saturday.

Met with Michelle at Gleaner's today and optimism is a good way to describe our meeting. Michelle and I have worked together for almost two years now and this is most excited we have been. Still have to finalize some details with our friends at Bufallo Wild Wings but all systems seem to be a "go".

Last night in Ann Arbor, Trevor Smith won the opportunity to advance to Atlanta next spring in the Skull Factory tour. This wasn't just a typical competition, this was a regional step within the national contest. Whether he wins or not in Atlanta is not as important as him getting there, having this on his resume and the networking/contacts he is making almost insures him of steady work in his dream field next year. Way to go Trevor, we're all very proud of you.

With our November show of Performances @ The Well approaching I took some time off and went to the Open Mic at Memories last night. The Michigan Musician's Collective holds these Open Mic's on the 1st and 3rd Monday of each month at Memories as well as countless locations throughout southeastern Michigan. I always encourage performers to register at this site and begin networking with others. Some performers do and some don't, but all seem to say the same thing "there's no place to play". Well there is no excuse for that really. I mean some of the venues may be a drive and tough to do on weeknight but, I'm sitting at Memories with five other people and just that morning I heard a guitar picker moan "man I wish there was a place to jam".

I went to network myself and meet long time correspondent pal Bob Clarke who was running the show. To my delight I got to meet Kees Oosthoek the administrator of Michigan Musician's Collective site and it's founder. I told them both the work they are doing in fabulous and under appreciated. So from now on, when I get notice of an Open Mic, I'm going to post it here and follow up with my performers to see if they're taking advantage of it. Speaking of which...

Tomorrow's Stray Dog session in Milford has been cancelled, set to resume the Wednesday after Thanksgiving.

Also, for those of you lucky enough to see KayLyn Pace at the Cystic Fibrosis show last month, she will be at Zukey Lake Tavern on the 26th. KayLyn will be warming up for Nashville recording star Justine Blazer. Get there early for a good seat, Zukey traditionally fills early on a Friday and even earlier when there's music---hope to see you there.

This Saturday's show marks the first time we have taken out a newspaper ad, one that will run this Wed., Thur., and Friday. There is the "possibility" though remote that they may do a feature on our work with this series, but no guarantee. Also we will be handing out commemorative candies from Oh My Lolli to mark this special occasion for us. This is THE season the help Gleaners so come out, rock your socks off and kick off the holiday season with us, Shadowglen and Lauren Alm.

Here we are a week and a half away from our November show and there are many final details. Such is the norm I guess so we could say "business as usual", on the other hand...

WHMI is going to start plugging the show soon and tomorrow I meet with a representative from the "third estate", should be invigorating. Met a sketch comedy troupe today networking, we're having coffee tomorrow at Whitmore Lake Tavern---yeah I know, "tavern" but it is a family restaurant that has breakfast. Now if it was an afternoon meeting, that might be different.

On the comedy front, here is the latest on stand up Trevor Smith:

This Saturday at Lafftracks in Novi, Trevor is in the second round of competition for a prize of $1,000. This show is sold out but it is rumored they are taking names in case of cancellations---interested in trying, call 313-694-3236 for more details.

Then next Wednesday in Ann Arbor will be the regional phase of the Laughing Skull Festival where finalists will be going to Atlanta next spring. This is a huge test for Trevor that could propel his career. Big Day Tuesday

Yeah, last Tuesday was a big day, no doubt about that, but tomorrow is different. Starting off we're going to the Chamber breakfast and networking event at Zukey Lake Tavern. A fantastic event that most businesses can't wait for.

Just finished our first set of sponsorship packages, they will be our presentation at the breakfast and then we have two (not just one) presentations in Ann Arbor later in the day. Pretty excited, pretty nervous but also pretty confident. We got a product here that everyone can love and benefit from so we're running with it.

By now I hope you all have checked out Shadowglen, if not I know you'll be impressed come the 20th. Lauren Alm, my accompanist during announcements will be opening the show again and we may have another surprise guest do a couple numbers. But let's not forget the night belongs to Gleaners. This IS the Second Annual Rockin' 4 Gleaners after all.

Tomorrow we're going to do something radical, something that is almost unheard of these days...we're going to talk to the newspaper and possibly even the radio station about advertising Performances @ The Well. Not many think of these traditional avenues of promotion in today's era of social media, but we've been counting the days until we could include them in our marketing. Expensive? Maybe compared to doing nothing...but it's something advertisers ask us and with good reason.

Not many communities have a daily newspaper---but we do. Very few communities have their own radio station---but we do. Let's be grateful and work together on this. Then again they might be too expensive yet for us but, they still will be on the horizon for us. But we feel it's a bullet that has to be bitten and now is the best time. Why now? The November show at the Well will be our one year anniversary, so that is reason for some special celebration, some special promotion. How it will all work out we can't tell you but we're moving forward with this special event with a lot of pride and optimism. Thank you all for helping making the Performances @ The Well something special for us, our performers and of course, the groups we raise funds for.

Shadowglen focuses on covering contemporary rock music from alternative, metal, and classic genres. Our covers include music from Three Days Grace, Bullet for My Valentine, Avenged Sevenfold, A Day to Remember, and others. Also classic tunes from the Who, Led Zeppelin, and Journey.

The band started in the summer of 2009 as a way to give high school kids the opportunity to play some rock and roll. We started with our son Miles on guitar, our percussionist Jay's son Tim on drums, Jay's nephew Tyler on violin, then pulled in neighbors and friends Kevin and Alexis to round things out. In the process of getting this going, we discovered we had good chemistry and have put together a solid song list of good, contemporary rock music.

Tom and Denise Sutphen have been performing together since 1985 when they were introduced in the trio, Gunshy. Since the early 90's, they've gone by the name of Two Steps Higher playing various area bars and events. Tom and Jay Elliott performed together in the rockin' soul band, "Soul Provider", at area clubs, casinos, private parties and events from 2004-2008. Jay continues to lead "Soul Provider". Together, they bring over 30 years of professional performance experience to the group.

Settling In...

Wow, time flies. The Cystic Fibrosis show was a success, raised over a $1,000 for the cause and our performers made some great strides as well. Since then we have been settling into our new digs and got quite behind on some things, we appreciate your patience.

Coming up on November 20th will be our First Year Anniversary at the Well and our second annual Rockin' 4 Gleaners. Tickets are on sale now to see the new band Shadowglen make their debut on our stage. Shadowglen is truly unique and worth the investment in time you will spend viewing their show. Must run now, still some final details to oversee on our move and then tomorrow...we're REALLY going to have to work.

Performaces @ The Well for October will be a variety show for Cystic Fibrosis as you may know by now. But what you might not know yet is the young phenom Kaylyn Pace and you should.

At barely 15 Kaylyn has a stage presence and confidence that put her years ahead of her age. We've seen veterans of the club circuit who lacked many of the qualities that Kaylyn has. You might recall that LeAnne Rimes and Taylor Swift both hit the big time before their 18th birthday and we feel Kaylyn has positioned herself to do the same. Catch her while you can at this October 16th show at the Well.

Friday Night Lights!

One of the passions we have here is high school football. Every Friday we have the privilege of working on the scout team for one of the local schools. This means we get to go to one of the KLAA games of the week for free but we have to stand atop the press box and tape the game. This great for a number of reasons (except in bad weather) but the biggest is that we see a game that we have no emotional attachment to. By that I mean we can enjoy it without being disappointed one way or the other with the outcome; we can enjoy "pure" football.

For the most part there seems to be a bond, or mutual respect between scout teams. We share things about the school we're working for, things in our community, etc., it's a PR opportunity we all seem take pride in. Then, you meet these "NFL Film wannabes" who just think their fecal matter doesn't stink. Well it does...even atop the press box when the wind howling, they stink. These clowns last night (whose school will remain nameless) were unsociable, rude and complained constantly---about EVERYTHING and took all the enjoyment out of the evening. It wasn't a question of immaturity, at least not in the sense of their age but they did act like spoiled brats, they were older gentlemen that you would expect more courtesy and patience from. But all night long they were rude to host facility and the people who worked that home game for their school deserved better. These two clowns obviously thought they deserved better.

We get there relatively early to claim our position atop the press box of course but you know that there will be at least three other schools up there with you (the other scout team and the two team playing that night) so you accommodate and work things out. It's kind of brotherhood and there's a lot of mutual respect. Remember this is high school sports, it should be clean, wholesome and fun---football at it's purest. Then there are the "NFL Film wannabes". When we get there and these two have half the press box roof in use. I kid you not. We set up at the 50 yard line---a primo spot we usually don't get and the other two schools, the band videographer and three parents with cameras are ALL to our left; because there is literally no room to our right. Ten years ago you would look at all that equipment and say "Wow!", now you look at all that equipment and say "wow?".

Not only did this school's scout team use up half the press box roof, they used up half the outlets. Some of you may not know this but batteries tend to expire quicker in cold weather so it's nice that facilities have four outlets atop their press boxes. Four outlets, four schools, seems kind of basic and understandable to most videographers, kind of an unwritten law between scout teams but not these gentlemen. It was apparent to all of us there what was going on, but other than some casual glances, rolled eyes, etc. we said nothing. Again, with the unwritten code we realize we are representing our schools, our communities and continually try to take the high road; also it was apparent what our host school was dealing with these guys so words were not necessary. Which really comes down to the shame of it all, these two clowns were representing a school, a community and doing a terrible job of it! I know three schools that came away with a negative impression about them their school and their community. You try to look past it but if these actions are condoned and allowed by an institution you have to wonder. There were probably were some wonderful young men out there last night playing the game for the fun of it, proud to represent their school but their efforts were tainted by the egos of some adults that smell of fecal matter.

We have done video work for thirty years now so we feel pretty confident giving you our take on the situation. Enough rambling of the negative there is too much positive out there for us to enjoy. Ticket count as of today...100 of 300 seats sold, 200 more left. This is promising to be one of our best shows ever!

Kaylyn Pace the other local phenom from Dexter will be performing this Saturday at the Pinckney Event-a-thon at 11:30 am if you want to check her out---she'll be worth it!

In between these two outstanding young people will be a few talented "old goats" such as myself doing some sketch comedy and the fantastic Rick & John. More to come so stay tuned.

Local comic comes home for benefit show!

Award winning local comic Trevor Smith will be part of the entertainment on Ocotober 16th when Performances At The Well hold a fundraiser for Cystic Fibrosis. Trevor will be the final act in an evening full of music and comedy.

Trevor a graduate of Pinckney High School is an award winning comic who has worked with such national performers such as Kyle Cease and Louie Anderson. Trevor is also a regular at nationally known local clubs such as Joey's and Mark Ridley's.

Also performing that evening will be the duo from Milford, John & Rick and the young phenom Kaylyn Pace---both veterans from this year's Brighton Summerfest. In between all this we have some "old guys" doing comedy sketches. We will have our usual gift certificates from our friends at Buffalo Wild Wings to raffle off as well as some swell bucket raffle items.
